BANGKOK, Oct 23 (TNA) — Army soldiers are seriously sealing off the border with Myanmar where the novel coronavirus is spreading fast.

Meanwhile, a French woman was found with COVID-19 after her 14-day quarantine.

Army commander-in-chief Gen Narongphan Jitkaewtae visited Mae Sot and Phop Phra districts of Tak to inspect soldiers’ operations sealing off the border with Myanmar. He said that soldiers intensified their border patrols as COVID-19 was spreading fast in the neighboring country.

Seems like that they are in denial that she could have contracted the virus from a Thai person, after being released from quarantine. There will have been many people she would have been in contact with since leaving after her negative tests, none of which will have ever been tested.

one day you will have to open the border to the rest of the world. prolong it all you want.... you're only doing more damage.

It's possible she contracted the virus from domestic transmission...it's more likely, however, she had the virus all along (did she arrive from France/Europe, where infection levels are relatively high?) but didn't have enough virus in her system to test positive or become symptomatic until she did. There have been a few reports of infected people not testing positive until after the accepted 14 day quarantine period. People can also test positive for weeks after infection and recovery from any virus symptoms (when they may or may not be infectious).

You could not be bothered reading the last paragraph of the story, it seems ?

But it is quite possible this is just a case of a long incubation period, unusual but not unknown. There was a case in Australia of somebody who returned from abroad, cleared quarantine and then became  ill and tested  positive weeks later. She lived in a small country town, with no local cases, and no feasible way she became infected locally. Others have tested negative during their quarantine only to be found positive on the last day....which would really suck !

The 14 days is generally accepted as long enough to find most cases, but not 100% of them. If Thailand does reduce it to 10 days this will surely happen again.

And people need to understand that that’s the same with every test, whether Covid-19 or other things. When you get tested for HIV, it used to be that your test shouldn’t be earlier than 3 months after your last sex. With the newest generation tests, it’s supposed to be conclusive after 4-6 weeks already. What that actually means is that 95% of people develop enough antibodies/antigen after 4-6 weeks to show up on a test. It still means that you could be one of the 5% who don’t. There’s always a trade-off; if you were to target 100% safety it would mean you’d have to quarantine everyone for longer, even though the majority could safely leave quarantine after 14 days negative tests.

They will do whatever it takes to deflect from the fact it's 99% probable this was transmitted from a Thai while she was en route from BKK to Samui.

There's virtually NO testing here, we will never know how many people are infected.

the paltry amount generated doesn't justify letting any tourist in, reuniting family is one thing but lets keep these folks just going on a holiday out..

This statement is totally at odds with itself.

That folks cannot understand this simple fact even now is always surprising

Let some smoke in but not all....matters not smoke is now in .....As an aside it always was ????

In another article they actually admit that it was locally transmitted. Either that or admit that the system they have set up is not enough, just when folks are calling for them to loosen up.

economics the same the world over but because some knobs are missing their holidays it's ok to infect a country so they can come and party? I hope they make it more stringent because you can't trust a westerner these days..
