I had my usual injections last year to travel from UK to Thailand, the touristy spots, BKK, Pattaya but wonder if i need any extra jabs if i intend to visit Isaan/Buriram area?

I heard Japanese Encephalitis was recommended. Then of course not an injection, but doxycyline for malaria.

Hi Glenbat, i live in North Issan, about 100 NW 10 o clock from Udon Thani, 50k from the Mekong river and Laos, encephalitis thing is recommended if you are going to walk and sleep in the jungle and swamp areas, the injection stops your brain swelling up and bursting, i think a bite from some jungle / forest/swamp creature is responsible for this, and if i remember, its a very expensive jab in UK, Doxy, yes, get some, for the short term/holiday ect, long term, mmm, i think ive got used to the mossies now, and the local doc assures me that malaria/dengue fever is well under control, so ive stopped taking them, just use DDT wipes now, 2 wipes for 10bht, keeps the mossies away, Honestly though, take the advice of your Doc, there could be a travel insurance issue if something goes wrong, Good Luck, Lickey..
