Need to do some tests (ECG, blood sugar). Which hospital is better -- Bangkok or Phuket International?

I assume the costs are appr the same.

Any recommendations?

I went to Phuket hosital and found them to be very efficient, I had a full check up and I thought the service in general was good

Have been back since to see a Doctor and that was fine too

Opinion in general seems to be the standard of Thai hospitals (as long as you are paying ) is fairly good and with my limited exp so far I would agree

I would agree too. While in Chiang Mai (stayed there for two winters) I was used to get help from Chiang Mai Ram Hospital and had no complains re quality of their services.

Phuket International Hospital has some quite complete physical packages that are very inexpensive.

They are maybe 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of the comparable packages the Bangkok Phuket Hospital.

I generally prefer BPH just for aesthetics and modern clean bright convenience (Family Mart and a couple restaurants/snack bars) - but I have always found the care at PIH to be just fine.

BPH really rips you off on the cost of medications though. Get your Rx and head for Super Cheap.

My wife and I have been to both.

The standard of care at both places is good.

We have settled with Bangkok Phuket Hospital as the aesthetics are a lot better.

Our baby is due in 8 weeks, and my wife is more comfortable at BPH, so that is the one we use.

The cost for birth packages is the same, so it was not a difficult choice for us.

For some simple tests as you've described, the Phuket International hospital would be your best bet... You wont have to contribute to the recent 5 star face lift of the Bangkok Phuket hospital and the service is every bit as good.

Agree.

Twice I had a little staph infection from scratching insect bites that had to be cleaned and medicated.

First time, I went to a nice private Thai hospital. Great service. Total cost for all the cleanings and even local anethesia: 1250bhat (some Thai friends said this was expensive).

Second time, I went to Bangkok Phuket. Exact same situation. Except the ER personnel (not sure if he was a doctor) screwed up and made the infection worse, pushing the bacteria deeper into the flesh, almost right to the bone. And then gave me the wrong antibiotics. Went back had a real doctor clean out the deep wound. And then returned for multiple dressing changes. And I bought antibiotics myself and took them. Total cost, including the screw up by the first guy: 12,000bhat! That's including the 15% discount I get for having a platinum membership!

It's a pretty hospital, but in some instances, they charge even more than Bumrungrad in BKK.

But, if it's just a straight up bloodtest, it shouldn't be much trouble ... (I think, not sure)

Choosing depends on what you need.

If you need dental or dermatology Bangkok Phuket isn't very good.

General checkup stuff is fine. As is the eye and the bone and joint department.

Another option for the budget shopper is the Mission Hospital. They offer quite good care for about half the price of Bangkok Phuket.
