The 189 soldiers sent to the United States in July to participate in the “Lightning Forge 2020” military training session arrived in Thailand on Monday and are observing the 14-day mandatory quarantine.

Lt-Colonel Santipong Thampiya, director of the Army Covid-19 Situation Centre, said the team had also undergone training from October 3 to November 1 at the Joint Readiness Training Centre in Louisiana.

Before boarding their flight back home, all 189 tested negative to the virus, but will still observe quarantine until November 18 in line with the Public Health Ministry’s requirements.

‘......put in quarantine despite testing negative’

Just wondering why this makes the headlines. Any negative tested arrival has to do the quarantine period, or........?

They could have been exposed the day they departed the US. Being an American, knowing the way her insane citizens are behaving like the worst kind of spoiled brats regarding the virus, I'd question the decision to even let these soldiers back in period. ABSOLUTELY place them in quarantine.

Found any weapons of mass destruction yet?

If they can let soldiers who spent a few months in Louisiana back in, they should certainly find a way to let expat retirees back in. And which group is going to generate more business baht for local shops? Hint: it ain't the soldiers.

Since when did any foreign national have the same rights as a domestic national.

Based on the Hawaii training session earlier this year maybe best to stick to quarantine? AFAIK, these were reported in the official daily figures.

Eight Thai Soldiers Test Positive For COVID-19 After Training In Hawaii

They were participating in the Army’s first large-scale exercise in Hawaii since the pandemic began.

When a company of Royal Thai Army soldiers quarantined after returning home from training in Hawaii, 11 were isolated when they exhibited flu-like symptoms. Now Thai authorities say eight have tested positive for COVID-19.

Did they really need to send them there in the first place ?

In times of a Covid pandemic , exposures to the people in a heavily infected country should be reduced if possible ... the strain of the virus that is present in the US is more dangerous and more contagious .

A mass outbreak ( 2nd wave ) in Thailand would ruin it's reputation as a secure holiday destination .

Did nobody consider that risk before sending them to the US ?
