As I and Sheryl have said, there are other antibiotics out there that can do the trick for you, but before you go switching antibiotics GET A CULTURE DONE.

I had several cultures done in the UK with no results. Thats why its called non specific UTI. Ciprifloxacin did cure me.

Happy that ciprofloxacin did cure you, however the meaning of "non-specific" is that the actual organism cannot be identified.

As it is "non-specific" some urologists prescribe different antibiotics or even double up on them to try and nail the problem, as did a professor in London when I presented with a UTI which he considered "non-specific".

He prescribed a combination of antibiotics which he said would be a "blockbuster" and sure enough it did work.

Chlamydia is an STD, and I'm 100% sure it can not be an STD

If you are sure that it cannot be an STD, i.e. not sexually transmitted, then it is very probable that your retention of urine in the bladder is the culprit.

Urine retention in the bladder is a common cause of infections, which is why many people with BPH or similar, who retain urine in the bladder, are susceptible to these things.

Just one other thing, and I hesitate to mention it, is that oral sex can introduce organisms that will cause a UTI, for example, Streptococcus sanguinis which is a bacteria prevalent in the mouth which can find its way into the urinary tract and is hard to get rid of.

Rare but does occur.

I'm still taking the Cipro, which should clear an UTI. I also suspect I may be having diabetic issues.

Tomorrow I'm gonna take a blood glucose test, and a few days drink a lot of water and no alcohol at all

Cipro will work only if the infection is due to a susceptible organism

From your OP you took it for 3 weeks without improvement and I guess are now on about week 4?

Be advised that the risk of adverse effects from it do increase with long term use.

That is what the urologist mentioned, he said he suspected that there would be urine retention in the bladder.

Is it possible to check myself if my prostate is enlarged?

As Sheryl has said: NO.

You need to see a urologist who will do a digital rectal exam, DRE, and an ultrasound just to be sure.

Reason I asked is that google tells me this, and since I still have fingers

Digital rectal exam: This is a way for your doctor to feel if your prostate is enlarged. The prostate is right next to your rectum.

First, you'll bend over the exam table or you might lie on your side with your knees pulled up to your chest. Your doctor will gently slide a gloved, lubricated finger into your rectum to feel your prostate. They will feel for any growths or lumps.

You might feel the need to pee or a little discomfort, but the exam should be quick.

Even if you are a human pretzel, you do nto have the experience to assess what you might feel.

When I first started having problems (elevated PSA) my GP gave me a DRE. He found nothing. I asked to see a specialist who found a lump, then gave me a 10 point biopsy which diagnosed prostrate cancer.

Exactly. It takes a great deal of experience to know what you are feeling and how it compares to normal prostate, prostates with beningn enlargement, and prostates with cancer.

I have two doctor friends, and both of them have said that the DRE is not a foolproof method for detecting lumps or anything of that sort, although the PSA test is a pointer which can help the diagnosis.

A biopsy is as close as one can get to detecting a cancer, however once again, it is not foolproof, but is the closest thing you will get to it.

What is your problem?

I copy and pasted a text from a medical site, if you have a problem with that, then put me on ignore.

Wait I'll make it easier for you, and will do at my end

Well it's not me that has the problem, mainly because I've been trying to help you on the posts I have submitted to this thread.

But suggesting that you could do a digital rectal exam on yourself really stretches the realms of possibility, or should I say it's almost impossible to do, and even if you were able to do it, are you medically qualified enough to know exactly what you have found/are feeling? (as Sheryl has already mentioned).

Up to you what you do with regards to the ignore button, absolutely "no skin off my nose" as the saying goes!

I asked an honest question, because I read they test with their fingers, and I don't need an answer like "are you for real". It is not helpful, it's plain rude

Your help in this thread so far as been nothing more than repeated scare mongering about the black box warning on Cipro, which has been made clear it not affects everybody in the same way.

Goodbye

He is not the only person with severe allergy or issues with the way CIPO is handed out here.  I have also posted my experience - my BIL has had the same issues in USA within the last two months and nearly died - but in his case was in hospital and due to no response to other medications (and had to be stopped).  CIPO is not a benign drug

we can add Roadrunner as well to the list (on this rather small forum) that have had severe reactions to this drug.     i always post a warning about it and Sheryl always  says i am scaremongering.

sad that our personal experiences are still not warning enough.......

and people that actually READ  even the MAIN STREET  news about this will see that there is a

LARGE  segment of affected people  .     just dig a little bit

Where did I say I didn't take Sheryl's hint?

Sheryl responded to my post, I didn't make any response to that, but you thought it was needed to add an insult after Sheryl's post.

And glad I'm on ignore, so I don't need to take your insults anymore
