BANGKOK (NNT) - The Pollution Control Department (PCD) is to monitor for exhaust spewing automobiles more strictly, as it ramps up efforts against PM2.5 pollution.

PCD Director-General Attapol Charoenchansa said the national “particulate matter pollution remedy” plan has been re-evaluated, with particular tasks commissioned for crisis periods. Greater coordination is to be sought by the Air Pollution Resolution Center, to be better kept abreast of the situation. Stricter monitoring of exhaust spewing vehicles is to take place, encompassing small and large cars as well as public transport vehicles, for the sake of public health.

Between October 2019 and September 2020, the PCD has worked with Traffic Police and Bangkok district offices to check 9,539 vehicles. 7,010 were trucks or transport vehicles with 2,526 cited for pollution and fined. From 2,529 private cars checked, 390 were ordered off the road.

Preparations have been made against PM2.5 in Khon Kaen to reduce the severity of pollution this year. Readings over the past seven days have been in the range of 33-71 micrograms per cubic meter, considered mild to good. Director of the Khon Kaen Natural Resources and Environment Office Pichit Sombatmak revealed that all district offices in the province have been told to designate sites for shelters from air pollution, to carry out water spraying, to monitor garbage burning, to campaign against burning and to build leaf collecting receptacles, which have proven effective in the effort in the past.

Yeh, Keep blaming vehicles. It's thai society to blame. As soon as the rains stop they start burning anything and everything.

Yes,indeed they do...

Very good idea.

But not enough.

Air pollution left, air pollution right and Thailand in the middle...

Widespread burning has already started south of Chiang Mai.... I don't know the rest of the North but assuming they do the same...... I would have left already but have to wait due to Corona... Only the Chinese are happy with that since it's much worse in their own country.... Looking very much forward until the end of April.....

You're so right concerning an area 20 km north of Phrae.

Since Friday it's burning time. -  The ring of fire around us.

A bit different fire  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WaV2x8GXj0

Here today's photos.

In Isaan, more like, as soon as rice harvest ends—the burning begins.

So bad, and later the sugar cane - fires.

I noticed very bad air February 2020 near Kamphaeng Phet. For many miles, kilometers

or even lightyears(?) no more than 50 meters  of the road were visible.

So, every region in Siam has it's own specialties.

Saw some smokiness in the air today in chiangmai. Have we had 2 or 3 full days of clear sky without rain? That's enough! Locals can't wait any longer to start burning...2 days of no rain? It's time to BURN!!!

Of course everyone knows this is complete bs as the police love illegal, overloaded, smoking, noise, trucks billowing black smoke as they are required to pay a small toll at the check points. They just hand the money out the window as the roll by, no need to come to a complete stop, no need for exchange of words.???? It seems that blocking the passing lane is also covered in the service as they do so with complete immunity.

As always there is little logic in these decisions.  They'll test the odd obvious gas-guzzler but allowed convoys of speaker-vans extolling various products unaware that nobody hears them and if they did make out the brand name would never buy that product for holding up 200 cars all round the city.

Now it's the turn of the politicians to pollute the area in the local elections.  My vote (if I was allowed one) would go to the greenest candidate who did not pay for vans.
