Hi,

My Thai wife and I have been living and working in Africa for over ten years and we have now bought a house in Pattaya and wish to return.

Does the Thai Government have a returning residents tax free allowance for household items, cars etc?Anybody know?

Many thanks

Check for the correct Gov't department from these links Thailand Links - most of tthe Government links have Thai/English for the correct guidelines on what you can and can't do. If nothing else it's always a good sttarting point in my opinion.

If your wife is returning under her Thai passport and has not been back during the last year for more than 3 times ,with a maximum of 90 days, than she can import duty free your household belongings (no car).

There is a complete list of conditions and items and regulations available with any big international moving company.

www.AsianTigersGroup.com

www.crownrelo.com and many more.

Most have their own offices in Bangkok and their staff can provide you by e-mail with all.

I will go through the same ,the end of this year.

good luck

Will you arrive in Thailand holding a non-immigrant O class extended visa, or an

O-A visa from abroad. You'd need one or the other to be involved in the process of importation without government charges. Your wife, as a returning Thai will be fine. I presume she has a Thai ID and a Thai passport.

Just make sure that all documents are in the name of your wife and there should be no problem.

There is a list of excluded articles - cars/fine wines etc available from various thai govt websites.

Around 3 times the vehicles worth and the tax applies to shipping costs too. As Dutch says, you don't want to know. Go look at the Thai Customs site.
