I had a kip at lunchtime and felt a bit better for the rest, so I went for a quiet stroll down Jomtien way. I only live about 1,500 metres from Pattaya Park but could see the tower was looking murky and hazy. I know what that means, poor air quality, and it was confirmed when I got to the beach; Bang Saray and the hills down there had disappeared into the murk. The AQI was close close on 140 when I checked, which is enough to make me feel aware of it. I'm finding as the years go by that I'm becoming more and more sensitive to the AQI, I've no idea why. This is the earliest I've seen the lousy air quality start in Pattaya, anyway, are we really in for 3 or more months of breathing this rubbish? So at least something hasn't changed! 555

November 20, 20205 yr Let's see we have this pollution looking stuff hanging in the air--but I smell no smoke or pollution yet it burns my eyes a bit.....Earlier this November the temperature felt cooler than it does now.....I am looking out my window now in Pattaya and seeing lightning flashes that light up the entire sky but I hear no thunder.... Nope......Nothing strange going on here......

November 21, 20205 yr Frankly the vast majority would just like to be in Pattaya in the first place to experience the air quality.......
December 11, 20205 yr Today Friday December 11, 2020. the air pollution is really bad, unhealthy. Most of it is originating in Bangkok. At 15:45 Air Visual is reporting 154 US AQI, and and it's confirmed at https://www.ventusky.com/phatthaya

December 12, 20205 yr There is never a explanation where all this smaze comes from....It must come from those huge piles of sugarcane they burn on Walking Street every day....
December 12, 20205 yr Who cares. Many countries are Covid cesspools with lockdowns 1000's dieing everyday. Just be happy you can go outside at all..

December 12, 20205 yr Polluted air and polluted ocean waters i doubt these high value and high quality tourists are going to embrace this Neo Style Pattaya. ????????
December 12, 20205 yr I live outside of town a bit & there are a lot of small farms or houses with some crops & every single night except for when it rains heavy they have fires lite. They seem to wait until the sun has settled then off they go. The police do nothing, city hall do nothing. I know a teacher at the local Thai school & one of their neighbours is often burning even during the day, she told me they asked him to stop & reported him so he stopped for a while & then started back up.

If you look at the ventusky.com map, for Pattaya, 80% is coming from Bangkok not sugar cane burning. Choose the air quality index. The air coming into Bangkok is in the 40-50 range, then as it rises and disperses from Bangkok 450-550 micro grams per cubic meter on December 13, 2020. There is massive plume of pollution that rises from Bangkok and blows away from it, depending on wind direction. Edited December 13, 20205 yr by Banana7

December 16, 20205 yr Author Popular Post It's much better this morning, maybe the heavy rain late yesterday afternoon helped, but it might also be that there's a bit more of a breeze and/or the direction has changed. Oddly enough, the other side of the Bight is suffering now, while Chonburi, Rayong and most of Bangkok are reasonably healthy.
January 19, 20215 yr Boy the air quality is extra bad today.....I would say its much worse than the current reading.... https://www.ventusky.com/?p=12.21;101.76;7&l=pm25

Could it be a ''natural'' cause? I can't see any industrial, road traffic or crop burning pollution in the Sahara wich is one of the areas covered by this pollution cloud
