Has anyone had any problems with UBc satellite TV over the last two days. Mine has not been working, the desk in Carrefour is not manned and the shop/office in Pattaya Klang is chained and padlocked.

No kidding. I paid 10K to have it installed and close to 500 a month. What a waste of money.

Just cancelled my UBC subsription after enduring 4 years of crapy programs & movies.

While I was in the UBC office in Chiang Mai 2 other people (thai) came in to also cancel, so its not ony us farangs that are unhappy.

Saw in todays (Fri May 11) Post that True may be bought so maybe thats why some offices are closed.

My decoder broke down a week or two ago and went to the new UBC location (inside thee big TV shop next to Index on Sukhumwit). As I am renting the box they simply gave me a new one. This is the real deal compared to the one on Pattaya Klang & Carrefour as they are directly linked with Bangkok head office computer system.

Installed the new decoder and some channels were missing :o so I called the shop and they had a man come the day after with reprogramming equipment. It was not the decoder but the disc had apparently shifted. Now all work fine.

Do you mean the worst company, or the worst pay-TV company?

Sophon's worse, but it's cheaper so it all balances out.

It may be changing the subject a little but i read in the Bangkok post a few months ago that espn & star have lost the rights to show prem football next season. So maybe even the football wont be aired on ubc

If that's true that would be horrible news. Any actual real story on this? All the matches on ESPN and Star is one of the best reasons to live in Thailand.

Try taking out your card and putting it back in.. That usually works for me. Ive had this problem before..

We often get problems when it rains a lot!!!

Other than that, as people have told you, you turn the power off (TV and Box - and make sure you turn the box off - not just on standby), the take out the card, clean it, and replace it. Turn everything back on, and if still no signal. switch the channels a few times and it will usually come back. If it still doesn't work, repeat the process over again - maybe 2 - 3 times.

If all this fails, call UBC (True) in BKK - they have an English speaking help line - open to about 10.00 pm I believe, and they are very good. They will talk you through what to do (often what I have just described above), and if still no result, they will re- send the signal. If that doesn't work they will talk you through the process of testing your signal, to establish if there is a fault at your end.

In 2 years I must have called them maybe 6 or so times, and every time, except one they were able to fix the problem within 5 minutes on the phone. I won't comment on the programmes, but their help line is excellent.

On the one occasion they couldn't fix it, they advised me that something was wrong my end. So I called the engineer in, and he found that my satellite dish had been moved factionally, and the signal lost. Guess what? I had been having the house re-painted, and I asked the painters if they touched the dish, but they swore blind they hadn't. When they were found to be the culprits, they admitted they had knocked it a bit, but had put it back where it was Guv, so no probs.... :o

Happy repeat veiwing. :D

(I like BBC Entertainment, ESPN sport, Seinfield and a few other comedies on Star World, and - horror upon horror - American Idol. The wife and I are addicted.)

Mine has been off since Saturday morning and all the usual remedies failed. The engineers are due to come today at lunchtime. Call the customer service help line on 02 271 7171 if you still have a problem and they will arrange for the local agents to come out to you, although it usually takes a few days.

i can confirm that. they also changed a total of three receivers -which were hit by a current spike caused by lightning- free of charge. having said so i repeat that their choice of broadcasted programs is :o

I had a lap top fried, beyond repair, and my 100,000 Baht Samsung TV was damaged by a lightning power surge, but fortunately it was fixed under guarantee - took a few weeks though for the parts to come from Korea!

I now have a ups/power stabilizer, and we always turn off during electrical storms. And if you have any phone lines in modems, take them out. Power surges through the phone lines are common during storms.

I was considering Ubc but after reading this thread, I dont think I will bother

better to just stock up on DVD MOvies and Series from Tukcom every month

Then why don't we do a DVD swap-shop on here - or has that idea being bounced before..?

Hi Helicopter,

I suppose it depends on your budget, but in spite of all the complaints - most of which I agree with, I still reckon me and my family get enough value out of UBC to justify the 2,000 odd Baht a month it costs me. I don't watch a great deal these days, but I do enjoy the football, and the ESPN sports discussion programmes, (and sometimes some other sport ); BBC entertainment has some good comedies and drama - much of it very recent - and Star World also has some good comedies and other stuff, if you can stomach all the commercials. (I sometimes record on DVD and then I can fast wind through them). I hardly ever watch any movies - too many repeats, and not on at convenient times.

Now,as for swapping DVD's - that is a great idea. I recently 'discovered them at Tuk Com and my late night viewing has been transformed - at the expense of Thai Visa. :o

So far I have watched series 3 - 6 of the Sopranos, and have just finished Boston Legal - both wonderfully entertaining and brilliantly acted and produced. All without a single commercial!

On my last trip to Tuk Com I bought Greys's Anatomy, and House - both of which are/were on UBC, but spoiled by too may commercials, and broadcast at inconvenient times. There's loads of stuff at Tuk Com, including good copies of the latest movies. There's also an English guy who sells UK TV programmes - a bit more expensive, but I might try them - he's got a huge range of stuff. I've got his number and a catalogue list if anyone is interested. Both these sources will replace duds, so that's another plus.

with the first lightning strike my modem/ router and the motherboard of my PC was fried. it's a hassle to unplug each and everything especially when you have several TVs and PCs in different rooms. unfortunately there is no other way than to unplug all electronics. no UPS or other surge protectors exist to give you full protection.
