Three days and three nights of heavy rain with runoff from high ground left much of Nakhon Sri Thammarat in the south of Thailand devastated yesterday.

Flooding as deep as 2 meters was reported in what was said to be the worst in 30 years.

Government offices, schools and hospitals were all inundated and traffic was brought to a standstill.

Many vehicles that could not be moved to higher ground were damaged.

Particularly affected was Route 41 southbound and heading towards Bangkok. A five kilometer stretch from Khao Pha Thong to the Nong Wa intersection was under 1 meter of water with huge tailbacks.

One video posted on Chumthang Thungsong (ชุมทางทุ่งสง) showed two people on a motorcycle being swept into a klong before they were helped by friends. Their vehicle just disappeared in the flood waters, reported Daily News.
