WASHINGTON (Reuters) - "Directed" radio frequency is the most plausible explanation for mysterious symptoms experienced by diplomats stationed in U.S. embassies in Havana and elsewhere, a U.S. government report said on Saturday.

The symptoms appear “to be consistent with the effects of directed, pulsed radio frequency energy,” said the report by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering.

Diplomats in some postings have been plagued with nausea, headache, dizziness and other unexplained symptoms. This "Havana syndrome" has long been the subject of intense speculation, given the nature of the symptoms, the location of the postings, and the silence of the US government.

Saturday's report marks the first time Washington has officially offered an explanation, although inconclusive.

"Directed" radio frequency is the most plausible explanation for mysterious symptoms experienced by diplomats stationed in U.S. embassies in Havana and elsewhere, a U.S. government report. This report produced by Chris Dignam.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in October that "significant U.S. government resources" had been dedicated to solving the mystery, in which more than 40 U.S. government employees were affected between 2016 into 2018.

The State Department said in June 2018 that it had brought home diplomats from Guangzhou, China, over concern they were suffering similar symptoms.

In addition to directed radio frequency, Saturday's report left open “the possibility of multiple causal factors including psychological and social factors."

NBC News and the New York Times first reported the findings of the report.

“We are pleased this report is now out and can add to the data and analyses that may help us come to an eventual conclusion as to what transpired,” the New York Times quoted the State Department as saying.

Who's behind it? Russia or China?

My money's on China.

Nah...I'd bet Russia...China's strategy usually is more espionage or steal secrets related for the purpose of making money or gaining advantage....Russia has a long history of aggressive and dabgerous actions toward foreign diplomats...just to stir the pot if for no other reason than to cause distress and take advantage of any confusion afterwards

Russia for sure.  In the 70s  They tried using stuff like that to affect some

weather, and I believe they would not feel bad about a few Americans getting affected

by their efforts. Remember the old crisis in Cuba, and loss of face.

Geezer

I thought Russia and Russians were open armed towards Yanks.????

Most people are too young to remember an event that happened 50 plus years ago.    Time to forget and move on.

maybe communist Cuba has also been a distant testing ground for the CCP and their Huawei?

Chinese communisms idealism&technological growth/development/expansion techniques were all copies of whatever the Soviets had done&dusted decades earlier adinfinitum.

Weaponised energy directing via of the likes of 5Gsoon6G were initially a military development...

I believe that microwave can detect conversations by the vibration on windowpanes. Maybe the operators were focusing on vocal cords in these egregious cases?? Just speculation.

or perhaps the new crypto gear installed on the embassy rooftop requires calibration.

indeed

US embassies have more antennae and radio communication than any kind of building and no one likes technical gimmicks and satellite devices than the Americans. They also have a lot of data traffic flowing in and out.

It might turn out the US personnel has been the guinea pig for 5G ????
