COVID-19 in Thailand: Situation is under control, don’t believe fake news, says spokesman

Thailand's principal Covid-19 spokesman has said that the country's health authorities have everything under control despite 14 cases of the disease - one transmitted to a health care worker in state quarantine.

Dr Taweesin Wisanuyothin of the CCSA emergency steering committee urged his countryfolk to reject fake news.

He said that the authorities had acted well and fast in test and trace procedures to contact those who came into contact with three illegal entrants who came in from Tachilek and Myawaddy. They were among 13 returnees who tested positive.

But he urged Thais not to be complacent.

He repeated the mantra of masks, hand washing, social distancing, avoiding gatherings in enclosed spaces and the need for cleaning and using the Thai Chana tracing app.

He urged people not to sneak into the country and said that if everyone played their part the country could look forward to a good end of year tourism period.

A story that ten provinces were off limits was nonsense, he said, and should be called out as fake news.

ThaiPBS is reporting that the government has ordered emergency health centers to open nationwide - that's not the sign of a government who thinks it's under control.

And why would emergency health centers be needed?

  • Popular Post

Sir, the news are not fake, you're fake, trying to sell bull-dung to people will not work... because all it took is some A-holes who didn't give a stuff for anything but themselves and their trip to infested Burma and sneak back and travel all over Thailand and to start the whole thing all over again...

And they all laughed at him as they crossed the river from Burma! :jap:

The irony is evident with it being beligerrent Thais causing a new outbreak, and not nasty foreigners.

It's actually quite satisfying watching them squirm.

Every thing seem to be fake here.  I wouldn't believe anyone.  There all out for themselves and not the Thai people.  Why Thailand will not have a vaccine until May or later.  That not fake news that fact and it shouldn't be.

Hopefully they won't be needed, but I see nothing wrong with making prudent preparations. Thailand has already demonstrated that it is well prepared and able to handle this virus.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best. It's a good policy.

What's the panic?......I read the US news....isn't it all just a hoax?

The ones fighting for a better future free of corruption and nepotism and hoping to live in a democracy not a military dictatorship.......those protestors?.......Oh!...you meant the idiots in yellow...sorry.

In order to dismiss news as 'fake first you must identify that it IS fake. Perhaps he would share his formula for doing that?

Well said.

preparations BEFORE anything happens are a sign that everything is under control.

Thailand INDEED has fully proved that it can handle a pandemic very well.

WELL DONE THAILAND.

I just dont understand, whats wrong with all these negative cynical ppl, i guess its a combination of lack of selfesteem with a dosis of latent rascist feelings towards Thai people. But i dont wanna play psychiatrics now...

Its easy...if it comes from a government source  then its "real"  anywhere else it could be fake or maybe not

but anyway they are saying "trust only us we are the only true news source" ????

No one knows how Covid will affect Thailand now or in the future but one thing is certain Covid knows no borders. The only safe way out of the pandemic is to vaccinate a large proportion of the population starting with those most at risk. The quantity of vaccine so far ordered is woefully inadequate and should be increased together with a nation wide vaccination programme as quickly as possible

yes if other countries had done the same they wouldn’t have tens of thousands of dead.

“Nasty” farangs now. Nobody actually said that. Except you.

Getting satisfaction from a covid outbreak. I can see who is nasty.

If it's under control, why is the government opening up emergency health centres across the nation? Or is this a case of the left hand etc?

If the government had any credibility with the populace or even their followers the false news claims would not be needed. Unfortunately there is a huge credibility gap between the government and their mouthpieces and almost anyone else.

After having returned back to Europe as of February this year for the first time in 10 years, and having lived in the midst of one of the worst affected nations by COVID, it's quite interesting reading how paranoid and frantic everyone back there in LOS gets. This virus is deadly; sure, somewhere in the region of being 3x deadlier than the flu. I'm not saying that getting sick is fun or that nobody dies, but the panic and the paranoia is insane. Where I live currently, we have 15,000-20,000 infections a day, and life goes on as normal pretty much. Nobody really fears it here, and when I speak to Thais back there who I've known for a long long time, it's quite interesting to hear the fear they have for this thing. Also the posters on here too.

I would like to also point out how not even 50-60% of the people in the West actually want or will take the vaccine, meaning herd immunity is not going to be achieved. This virus will probably never go away and it will remain in society for our entire lives. It will mutate and carry on existing much like influenza does now. Regular vaccines will be needed due to mutations, just like the flu vaccine, and we will all need to learn to live with it.

Dirty foreigners then, is that better? That's actually what was said and on Twitter.

I am getting satisfaction from watching the officials squirm, nothing to do with the outbreak in general.

Top quality trolling though. 7/10

Guess  they have the experience of  being here for  years and know what the real  Thailand is  all  about.

There is a good possibility that up to 60 people returning from Burma have entereed the country

& travelled by plane to the 4 corners of Thailand with no quarantine/testing & possibly carriers of the virus.

Be aware of that in your daily travels & take precautions as you are able.

Nearly impossible to stop illegal crossings from Burma/Myanmar even with 16,000 border police.

The border is very long & has always been porous, a bit like Mexico/US although jungle conditions here make it impossible to completely enforce.

I know the area well.

The "hotel workers" are just the tip of the iceberg & in their case was just a very selfish action
