So I am on a retirement extension based on the 800,000 baht in a bank account, entered on a Non Imm O visa 2019.

Getting the documents needed to renew next week, already applied for the years worth of bank statements, just getting things ready to get photo copied and reading through the requirements etc.

While reading the requirements it states that funds have to be in the account for 3 months prior to the application, not the 2 months that I assumed, I waited until just over 2 months prior to transfer the 100,000B needed to take the balance in my account above the 800,000B.

Am I totally up the creek?, do I apply still and risk a refusal?, do I consult an agent & will they be able to assist?

Thanks to any helpful replies.....

AFAIK two months is the required seasoning period now. I'm sure ubonjoe will be along on this thread, his advice you can take as gospel.

The 800,000 only needs to have been in place for 2 months prior to the application. Three months was an old requirement (for renewals) superseded now.

Thanks for the quick reply, it has calmed my nerves a little.

I will search for the updated information.

You must also check whether your balance is above 800 k AFTER last year's approval for at least 3 months.

It is 2 months BEFORE application this year.

Your balance must be above 800k for a total of 5 months per year.

Immigration just love to confuse people on the requirements. They should really have stuck to 2 months before and also after.

The 3 month after requirement will be ok, hopefully !!!, I do not know 100% until the statements arrive in the bank.

When I did my 1st 90 day report I called into the immigration office to see what they required proving the 800,000B was in the account still, they said nothing and did my report there and then.

After that date I started dripping funds to my daily account and paying bills etc. using the account, it should be ok, I just have to wait until Monday to be 100%

Thanks again for the information guys , google sometimes is not king !!

OP, I also use money in bank method. Some time ago I decided to open a new account and just deposit 800k in FD account and leave it. I call it my "extension account". Only take it out when I do annual trip to immigration.

I know I should do the same, in future I will.

This account is my visa renewal account only, but I am a tight Yorkshireman, I look at the exchange rates and stupidly think they will get better soon and wait, in the meantime drip funds from this BKK bank account to my Krungsri daily use account.

over the course of the entire year, what was the lowest balance on your account?

It dropped to about 790,000, transferred £5000/203,000B on October 5th 2020 for the renewal.

No problem to apply for the extension.

Are you using a normal savings acct?

Asking because encountered them wanting a 1year statement for a fixed acct as well now, all the time way above 800k, only transactions are interest paid and tax deducted, the book can be updated without actual transaction at any time (BKK BK) clearly showing the saldo ... I mean is that pointless or is it just pointless ...?!

It is a bit of similar case to me.  I will soon go to K-bank to get bank letter and Jomtien Immigration Office to apply for Non O-A Visa extension the first time.

I entered the country in late Dec 2019 and opened saving account in Feb 2020.

Account Balance has been over 800,000 Baht since Aug 2020,  so three month deposit requirement is met.

Not yet stayed in the Kingdom for one full year,  so my bank account is of course less than 12 month old.

I am not sure if K-bank is going to fuss about giving me their standard letter for visa.  Just hope for the best for now.

If it's your first extension then the money only needs to be in bank 2 months prior to day of your application. Keep in mind that as it's an extension to a non O-A so you will need to organize your insurance also.

Yes, it is a normal savings account , I opened it last year for use with this visa extension, I already have an another account with Krungsri that I use & have had for 10+ years.

I posted on a previous topic about updating the bank book & it not showing all the transactions, I asked when applying for my 12 month bank statements (200B) last week & the teller said it would only update the last 10 transactions, mine updated the last 2 only?, so if you require the book to list all transaction a monthly update would be a good habit to get into.

Also make a small withdrawal on the day of application then update the book to show the account use on the same day.

Letter from the bank cost me 100B last year and was given without any problems.

They will only check the '3 months after' ruling at the time of your next renewal and not during the 90 days report.

They checked mine 2 weeks back and initially refused when it was below 800k for just a few days, but that was because I had the rest in another bank. When I showed the old bank account, they approved it.

This was the first time that they checked the '3 months after' ruling which I wasn't sure how they would check it.

I had to photocopy 3 sets of bank books which is a pain in the ass.

Thank you for your prompt response to my post.

It is my first Non-O-A extension,   I have already secured the  400K/40K  Baht health insurance.

There was some info about hospital-issued medical check certificate required by Immigration Office for the extension.   Do you know if this certificate is indeed required  by Jomtien Immigration Office ?

If yes,  I will go to a hospital in the next few days.    No idea which hospital to go,  just thinking a small hospital may do.

Not required at Jomtien and most other immigration offices. Only a couple of odd offices want it.

No, not asked for.

But just make sure, though, that once the "3-month-after" period has expired, your account balance does not fall a single satang below 400,000 THB at any time during the following 7 months before it needs to be increased again to at least 800,000 THB in preparation for next year's retirement extension application. Your bank account is now under the Immigration spotlight year round, not just for 3 months pre-application as previously.

I am due to do my annual extension (based on money in the bank) next week.  I'm sure I didn't have to supply a years bank statement (in addition to the certified bank balance latter and photocopies of the pages in my bank book showing money on deposit in excess of the 2 months before and 3 months after).  I'm hearing now that immigration (Jomtien) are requiring a proper bank statement for the nine months preceding this renewal.  I took my bank book to immigration 3 months after last year's renewal to show 800,000 as required for that period.  So if I have to go to the bank, I need to get get a hard copy of my last 9 months (7 for 400,000 and 2 for 800,000)  ?

As far as those transactions are concerned, the android bank app will send a statement for a year (or more) by email to me (and it's free).  If I did that and got the bank to stamp it when I go for my letter next week, will that do?

Thanks for any info.

I do not have a definite answer. However, the Jomtien retirement desk tend to be very reasonable. I would try it and see. Worst case, you just need to get the regular statement and go back again. Let us know how it goes if you do attempt this.

One tip for CIMB and others getting better rates on FD.. If you are having trouble getting an update, just add a 3 mo thb FD to your FD book for 10,000..that will carry the balance forward and post the total for all your FDs active in your book.  But TBH, I am going to read them the riot act this year, and might even go to the HQ.. if your <deleted> that I am paying for does not work, I am going to come back and close my preferred accounts.  Quit acting stupid.  A million doesn't make me Howard Hughes, but it is more than 98% of their customers have in their accounts.  30 to the dollar, and I would like to switch to O... would be a decent windfall.. more scared of the cold in the US than C19.

Well, I got my retirement extension yesterday without any problems, I was longer in the bank getting the statements, book update and proof letter than I was in immigration, I was done and out the door within 10 minutes.

Cost as always was 2000B, the usual price for extensions up here, but the 100b will buy her a plate of somtam I suppose.

They took the printed out map from immigration to my house this year, didn't want it last year, pleased I had kept it !

Thanks again for the replies on this post easing my worries.

Good that it worked out.

Note Chiang Mai Immigration Office, or some IO officers at that office, require the 800K for three months before the extension application like you were worried about. (not 2) I don't know if it was one officer or the entire staff but. Heads up warning.
