Britons may need visas to stay in EU more than three months: French minister

That is a thought that has already been played out. When covid restrictions kicked in earlier this year, the eastern Europeans were not able to come to work at the beginning and the growers tried to hire locals. Of course, by locals is not meant people living nearby but people from the UK. It was thought that the unemployment caused by covid would create an army of willing agricultural workers. Unfortunately the numbers who showed up were disappointingly small. And they did not have the manual skills that the east Europeans have. Eventually, the restrictions were eased so that plane loads of east Europeans were allowed to enter the UK to do the work.

Whenever I read "labor shortage" and scratch the surface, it usually comes down to "**** wages" and/or horrendous living conditions.

Wanna prove it?  Offer up $150K a year and see how many people show up, more than willing to get their hands dirty.  That'll establish that there are locals willing and able to do the work.  From there, it's just a matter of fine tuning the salary.

Or, you can do what globalists do.  Import cheap foreign labor.

Sometimes throwing money at a problem just does not do it. If you do not have the manual skills to do the job, it does not matter how much you are paid to do the job.

The UK retirees and business man in Spain might have an issue though.

They will most likely be able to apply for long stay visa.

IMO this whole visa thing is blown way, way out of proportion.

Their Project Frear prognostications are now as weak and spiteful as the EU leadership. Visas for more than a three month stay? No problem at all.

for you maybe not a problem but the ones living there maybe a burden

A couple of forms to fill in and a small fee. It's not going to be a massive invasion of privacy and reams of photos/paperwork like a Thai marriage visa that so many of this forum have to put up with.

Expect lots of minor issues dressed up as cataclysmic events in the coming months. :coffee1:

just curious, do you live there in the UK ?

That is logical to me as the EU will no longer be in the bloc.

This will also create revenue for the EU.

Bit surprised that they have agreed to a 3 months visa free access

they are not as bad as the brexiters make them, very polite, friendly and ready to help when and IF possible 555

You should ask your EU countries the question in a more specific way. “Do you still want the UK’s tourist business?”

Start with Spain, Portugal and Greece.

If they don't want to visit France, Portugal, Spain. Italy or Greece where do you think they will be looking for sunshine ? the North Sea, Iceland, Greenland they sure are great options 555

Only imports from the EU may become dearer, from elsewhere cheaper.

I dont think so , there was an agreement between Spain and the UK that Brits living in Spain and Spanish living in the UK , could continue living there if they have applied for residency

If you are legally resident in Spain before the transition period ends on 31 December 2020, you will be able to stay. You must register as a Spanish resident if you want to stay in Spain for more than 3 months. Children must also be registered with their own residency document.

If you are living in Spain before 1 January 2021 and register as a resident after 6 July 2020, you will be issued with a biometric residence card called a Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero (TIE). This card will prove your rights under the Withdrawal Agreement

The Spanish government also announced it is making plans for the event of a no deal Brexit. The intention is to “globally” preserve the rights of British citizens in Spain, “considering that they have made vital decisions believing in the European project,” says a government statement.

The plan is to establish a system allowing them to transition from the current to a future legal status. There will also be measures to guarantee social security rights, healthcare and the recognition of professional qualifications for both British nationals in Spain and Spaniards in the UK.

Its been well publicised , havent you been following these last few years?

but you don't have any fact to support your comment or do you, the document is dated Sept 2020, the EU deal agreement is not done yet, thus nobody knows what will happen, I do know Spaniards are desperate for the UK pound but not at any price, have to wait and see

PARIS (Reuters) - British citizens may need visas for stays in the European Union longer than three months after Brexit from Jan. 1, French European Affairs junior minister Clement Beaune said on Thursday.

We have known that for the last four years! Its has nothing to do with a trade deal. Its shengen rules for non-schengen states. Now if they really want to <deleted> of the UK they could say no 3 month entry visa free.
