BANGKOK (NNT) - The air quality index in Bangkok is expected to stay within healthy levels for the next two days, with the next period of unhealthy air pollution likely to last from 24th to 29th December. The government is asking the public to prepare themselves for this expected accumulation of airborne particles.

The government’s Center for Air Pollution Mitigation chaired by the Office of the Prime Minister’s Permanent Secretary Theerapat Prayurasiddhi, today announced its forecast for the next period of unhealthy airborne particulate matter in Bangkok, in late December.

During this time, airborne particles will accumulate in the atmosphere as weakening winter winds coming from China will no longer be able to dissipate the haze.

Some precipitation is expected during this period, however it is not likely to be significant enough to wash PM 2.5 dust out of the atmosphere.

To help mitigate this issue, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has ordered construction works to be suspended for three days, with contractors responsible for cleaning up the road surface where they are working.

Schools under the BMA’s supervision have been instructed to cancel outdoor activities, or close temporarily in areas where the situation is severe.

Offices are asked to stagger their employees work schedule or have them work more from home, while district offices will be using water sprays to clean road surfaces and nearby trees.

The Department of Health has suggested the general public closely monitor the air quality index reported on the Air4Thai mobile app, and wear a dust-protective masks.

In areas with an air quality index ranging from unhealthy to very unhealthy, persons with a chronic disease should avoid going outside, and refrain from any outdoor activities. Villagers are also encouraged to clean up their houses and other buildings to prevent the accumulation of dust.

Just in time for Christmas!  At least they are giving us advanced warning of the next controlled crop burn. There's really no reason to pretend anymore. Now we can make plans to spend the holiday season in the south. Thanks for that.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.  They are also destroying the south.  Nowhere to go now except out of thailand.... for good.   Its a very bad joke that Thailand still sees itself as a tourist destination for high end tourists.  I cant imagine any high end tourist wanting to spend even a minute in the haze of crop burning.  Gone also is medical tourism, retirement repatriation, and all the foreign investment that comes with it.  All to save a few baht on subsidized crops.

Uncle Tu took personal responsibility for this earlier this year along with the Covid-19 pandemic. What, exactly has he done?

Kept smiling behind his mask.

I've got the solution.  Lock the entire city down and only allow the wealthy and connected to drive..  Well, them and Grab food deliver.  Tada!  PM 2.5 gone!  Neo-feudalism would solve so many problems.
