Restaurateur shows kindness as Myanmar workers hit with more discrimination

A Bangkok restaurant owner announced on social media that she was ready to welcome all Myanmar nationals to her eatery after many shops and stores decided to shut their doors to migrants amid the new Covid-19 wave.

The virus has returned to Thailand and most of the infected persons this time are migrant workers from Myanmar. This has given rise to prejudice against Myanmar nationals, but also an online movement calling for equality and human dignity between locals and foreigners.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday night, Chatthamon Singtankong said migrant workers living in and near the Prachauthit area were welcome to dine at her restaurant.

She has even offered to provide free food to those who don’t have money. Her restaurant is open from 6am to 7pm daily.

Her post was applauded by other Facebook users, and some even wanted to donate her money, but she refused.

With bad news all around, it is nice to know that there are still some very decent people around.

A lovely gesture, hopefully inciting others to assist those stuck between a rock and a hard place

I have always believed that the majority of humans are good by nature, it's just the few bad apples who ruin it for everybody else.

I sometimes think lazy Thai's would rather be unemployed than do the work that they count on Burmese to do!

My wife and I just went to the pubs near Phrom Phong to revel in all the Christmas decorations. But they were totally full, with a lot of folks who appeared younger, more attractive, and more successful than either of us. Hah. So we went back toward our go-to on Soi 89, and dropped about 2000. A reasonable price for two full meals, several drinks to get significantly sloshed, and drinks and tips for the barkeeps. Cheers all, and Merry Christmas.

So there’s at least one good restaurant owner in the city. It’s nice to see someone do the right thing.

This shouldn’t even be an issue. Their ignorance, racism, and xenophobia is once again in the spotlight. It’s so bad that when a single person does step up to ge kind to a foreigner, it makes the news.

In this case, there are around 69,000,000 bad apples.

Same as many other countries where immigrants do the low paying jobs.

Replace Thais with Americans or Europeans and Burmese with Mexicans or Bulgarians/Turks/Romanians/Albanians and you have a universal concept

There are good souls doing good deeds everyday, it's just rarely those good deeds makes the news.

This warms my heart. Fortunately not everyone is controlled by fear. The virus does not discriminate, neither should we.

Merry Christmas all, be good to each other. ????

No doubt the Burmese will remember her good deeds when this blows over, and rightly so

how long are those people already in Thailand ? months ?

as thailand never did spot checks, waste of money ?,   more people might be "positive" but not sick

how many of those new positive are sick in the hospital or dead ?

always easier to find a scapegoat

Strange, from the hundreds of people who cross my path weekly, I very, very seldom meet any of these bad apples you speak of. How can that be? It is always those one or two bad ones who we remember, and talk about, the most. The goods ones are forgotten or taken for granted.

Says who?

Well done girl.

Now watch the Thais go round pretending to be from Burma just to get a freebie.

That could never happen , could it. :giggle:
