Thailand faces national lockdown by March if COVID-19 guidelines not followed: CCSA

It's simple, Prayut will use the covid outbreak from the market to introduce a lockdown so the demonstrations in Bangkok will finally stop.

There is logic behind the madness, political logic that is.

Why talk about March now? If this accelerates, lockdown has to be implemented much sooner.

  • is that the code word for copy ?

Could there be any better proof that an end of the crisis is not at all a top priority of the Thai government, for whatever reason? Were they told by China to wait for a Chinese vaccine maybe? Or to ruin the economy even more, to make it cheaper for Chinese investors? I mean, if even Mexico is able to get and distribute the vaccine in order to protect its people, why is Thailand not?

It's all about priorities whose order you perhaps fail to fathom:

> First we pay our Chinese bosom buddies for those submarines (in the course of which we collect generous "commissions")

> Then we fly to the moon (for which we collect generous "commissions")

> And then we vaccinate

> Then we start building a bullet train line with the help of our Chinese bosom buddies (for which we collect generous "commissions")

> And then we vaccinate

And just shot themselves in the foot due to corruption.  Letting migrant workers in illegally and allowing them to work with no permits.  No health checks, no quarantine!

Agreed!  The are now or will very soon be manufacturing the vaccine in Thailand. Where is the vaccine going and why? Should vaccines manufactured in Thailand be sold locally first. Asking for a friend.

Probably too little  too late by March.

A vast majority of the world will not have a jab by March.  This is going to take time.

I have only two things to say:

1) stay the **** home. Nobody really needs to travel to visit relatives, watch fireworks, or do a countdown. Stop thinking of yourselves and think of the rest of the country.

2) wear your masks properly. That does not mean big noses hooked over the top or using them as a chin strap. Family members check each other and fix any mistakes.

I haven't heard anything regarding vaccinating everyone in Thailand, have you?

I wouldn't know if the Thai vaccine will be ready by April/May, as far as I know not even the first stage of the trial has not been completed. I really believe that Thailand, which is not a poor country, should use its best efforts to get the two approved vaccines, before its own is ready. It would be cheaper that supporting economically most of the nation. May I say PLEASE!!?? This appeal is addressed to the authorities. Hopefully they read it.

Thailand has been relative covid free for how long now while its neighbors have been affected and they never thought about covering their borders???? Now wait 3 months until it is rampant so they have an excuse? Pretty negligent!

I hate to be sarcastic with my response here, but A space shuttle, submarines, new Stryker vehicles, bailing out an airline about to fold in bankruptcy as well as a high speed railway unfortunately take precedence over the Thai people.

Thailand never really tested and as many may have been ill they were never to ill to head to a hospital and get checked, either That or Thailand had their Image and FACE to uphold which is now coming back around.  It is called Karma, and I hate to see what it reaps with this government.

No country will be able to jab everyone.  And some countries will have a small minority jabbed even 2 years from now.

Agree. It is not difficult to do, especially wearing a mask. So many times I see foreigners not wearing a mask or wearing as described. It is embarrassing.

Looks like they've been reading the Boris Johnson play book on U-Turns!

Deny, deny, deny...................... implement 555! Seriously, no country wants lockdowns because of the economic impact. But, governments have to react to changes. And Covid can cause changes rapidly.

Although to be fair, Thais are much much better at following the sensible requirements than a large portion of the British and other Westerners seem to be,

I notice the malls, some individual shops therein and supermarkets have tightened entry checks in response. And I didn't see any arrogant Westerners swaning around in the malls without masks which had become noticeable.

The danger seems to be the movement of people for New Year. The tourism people were forecasting 2 million movements of people. Wonder if some provinces will introduce strict entry and quarantine regimes like before. Burriram was pretty strict last time for one.

2 million might be potential tourists somewhere in Thailand, but some 4/5 million alone are likeky enroute at this moment from Bangkok to Isaan.

Obviously, they need an excuse to cancel Songkran again and this must be it!

Better to copy something that works than develop from scratch - especially if you are not a world pharmaceutical leader like LOS

And to manufacture the vaccine in Thailand. However, the Thai government are predicting it will be available in May, AZ are predicting October.

I would listen to the Thai medical establishment and ignore the PM and other politicians on this topic. Get the two approved vaccines and start getting it into peoples’ arms. Singapore abs Malaysia are doing it - why not Thailand? Start with those at risk and with business travelers so we can get things moving again!

True, but i think it will come a lot sooner with the current rate of infections which will most certainly keep rising with this new variant.

AZ vaccine will be marketed at $4 per shot. $280 million to vaccinate every man woman and child in Thailand. How much a submarine? One individual recently took $40 bn out of the treasury. That's enough to vaccinate every man, woman and child in the world 5 times over.

It is still waiting on approval so that it can be used.

When will the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine be approved? - BBC News

However, here is the nuts and bolts of who and how it actual works as far as percentages and that why they have run into some issues I do believe.

The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine has been shown to be safe and to provoke an immune response in people of all ages, including the over-55s. Unlike Pfizer, which announced one figure, showing its vaccine was 90% effective, Oxford/AstraZeneca presented three different figures:

Overall, the vaccine was found to be 70% effective.

For the majority of people in the trial who got two full doses the figure was 62%.

However, for a small group who got a half dose and then a full dose, that figure was 90%. It's not clear yet why the results were better for this group.

Incubation period being 2 weeks, why speculate about 10 weeks!

if there is a wave in the making, we should be hit way earlier than March.

as some else mentioned, can blame the public for non-compliance

100% agree, and not blame it on the migrant Burmese workers as this Government is trying to do.  We all own this one unfortunately.  Step into the abyss Thai Government and do what is right to help your country, quit playing politics and stop making nonsensical proposals or creating Space Programs, buying Subs, and creating more holidays.  Good Grief Charlie Brown, is Lucy running the show as the doctor here or what.
