It has always puzzled me they ban foreign Civil Professional Engineers and Architects but not other disciplines of professional services.

Of course good for me since I am Electrical PE........

I know of architects that are employed in samui for companies there . They are European . Also seemingly a few of the newest high rise fancy buildings in Bkk are designed by some European architect . Guess it’s who you know that lets you work in whatever field .

Its the same with any jobs a foreigner does, their work permit will say manager/supervisor etc, in theory they manage Thai architects who do the actual design, plans etc.

A European architect doing a skyscraper in Bangkok probably works for a European company and gets paid in Europe.

One of the more noticeable and filmed / photo-ed Skyscapers of recent years was at threat of being demolished after it had been completed and the authorities discovered it had been designed by an Italian Architect. It still stands and was not demolished like a pile of "Jenga" so I expect that there were some negotiations (ahem) made behind the scenes.

Probably because Civil and Architectural work is kind of local, basic and the skill transfer is easy.

For electro mechanical, industrial work it's more varied and specialised and depends a lot on foreign equipment and innovation and expertise.

Nope, I believe it’s because the design and construction standards here are way below the Eurocodes and similarly accepted codes in the majority of the developed world. Most probably don’t want to risk farang whistleblowers if things go t*ts up? The same applying for construction supervision when corners might possibly be cut?

M&E more specialised? You’re having a laugh! I hold a degree in both and Civils is not only more diverse but way harder too!

19.- Making alms bowls.

Damn. Now I am in trouble. I was going to roll cigarettes by hand while making alms bowls.

My Thai Mrs owns/runs a shop. I go there and assist, sometimes serving customers as far as able (can't speak Thai). I am on retirement extensions which prohibit work. Front shop work is on this prohibited list. However, I am advised that you are allowed to assist your spouse in their business. Which of these 'regulations' takes precedence in this case?

legally you're not allowed.. but this is Thailand so you could work and nothing will happen, however there is always that one off chance someone get <deleted> off for some reason and they push the issue.  Do a search a few articles over the years about guys helping wives and running into problems.

I seem to recall photography and videography was on the list of prohibited jobs?  Did something change and these are now allowed?

I don't think those were on the list before. More info is here about the changes done in 2017/2018 is here.
