Eco Officer Interview Questions.

My wife who was my girlfriend at the time was interviewed by an english eco lady with blonde curly hair it was amusing to say the least she was refused but we re applied the next day and after only 15 mins she recieved a holiday visa.This is questions she was re asked the next day first time round my wife was scared but i put her straight on not to be afraid and stand up to the eco officer.

Q.WHY ARE YOU TRAV TO THE UK WITH A MAN YOU HAVE KNOWN 3 MONTHS.

A. BECAUSE HE IS A GOOD MAN AND I WANT TO SPEND SOME QUALITY TIME WITH HIM.

Q.HOW DO YOU KNOW HE IS A GOOD MAN AND YOU CAN TRUST HIM.

A.I JUST KNOW HE IS HE RINGS ME MOST DAYS AND YOU JUST KNOW

Q.I DONT BELIEVE YOU DO KNOW CAN ANYONE IN SUCH A SHORT TIME CAN YOU.

A.IF YOU ARE AN EXPERT ON RELATIONSHIPS LET EVERYONE KNOW SOME WORK SOME DONT.

Q.WERE IS HIS PASSPORT WE ONLY HAVE HIS NEW ONE

A HE RENEWED IT IN NOV UNDER THAI LAW HE CANT ENTER WITH 6 MONTHS OR LESS ON IT

Q.WE DO NOT BELIEVE HE HAS ENTERED THAILAND

A.CHECK HIS 6 MONTH BANK STATEMENTS HOTEL BILLS WITHDRAWLS PLEASE IT DOES NOT

SAY HE HAS TO SUPPLY PREVIOUS PASSPORTS CHECK RECORDS.

Q.I AGAIN ASK YOU WHAT IS HIS FATHERS NAME

A.I DONT KNOW HE NEVER SPEAKS ABOUT HIM IS THIS AN ISSUE

Q.ON MONDAY YOU APPLIED FOR 6 MONTH HOLIDAY VISA TODAY 3 MONTHS WHY.

A.I DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE MY DAUGHTER FOR TO LONG.

Q.YOU HAVE WORKED IN BANGKOK FOR A US FIRM YOU LEFT IN JULY WHY DONT YOU WORK

A.MY BOYFRIEND SAID NO JOBS PAY LITTLE HE SAID TAKE CARE OF DAUGHTER.

Ok no further questions i can now grant you a 3 month holiday visa it will say 6 months in passport but we expect you to return within 3 have a good trip.

Tongue in cheek comment - aware it would not be permitted - that said, if you hunt through the threads, 2 of the UK ECo's are indentified, and a few of the Aussie ECO's are also id'd on TV (though no photo's of course).

back in 1996 australians needed visas to go to the US (Aust makes EVERYONE get a visa, so lots of countries like to reciporcate).

Being in Thailand at the time, I chose to apply for a visa on my Thai PP.

The US embassy guy (and I know it his job), grilled me about having enough evidence that I would leave the US at the end of my visa. From the Thai side, I had very little evidence of roots in Thailand and as a poor student, no money to my name.

So I pulled out my Australian PP, Aust educational transcripts, fees and tuition notice, and Medicare card. I said to him (very nicely) "look, I get almost free university education, the government there pays me money while I am a student. I get free health care and I am looked after if I can't find a job. There is not one possible reason that I would want to stay on in your country".

10 year B1/B2 mulitiple entry visa granted the next day.

Reading the questions posted at the start of the thread - I can't help but feel that if one reads (or even just glances through) the procedures, one gets an impression about the procedure that is very different to what happens in the interview room - they are almost condesending and somewhat hostile. Leaves a bit of raw taste in ones mouth.

A group of Thai journo's need to set up the ECO's with various pretext applications (with hidden recorders) - then publish the interviewa verbatim afterwards! Could make interesting reading. FCO is always feeding the media "spin".

Yes they like to ask alot of the same stuff but my wife still got the visa,i interviewed her myself and to be honest i would not have given her a visa.After a severe row i told her to get her head together and this visa is easy to get, we went back next day she was out at 9.15 with her visa since then she has had no problems getting a visa.As she is now married to me i applied for a settlement visa for her daughter no interview required 2 days that took and i collect her next week.
