How is it that even though everyone knew there would be a march to the Capitol and that it could be violent, the security aparatus was unprepared?  Evidently, the decision was to leave the defense of the Capitol during this essential function entirely to the Capitol police who are about the equivalent of museum guards.  If that's true then it looks like they were set up to fail.  In the event the cops treated the putschists with kid gloves.  How come hundreds were not arrested?  They weren't merely trespassers they commit the felony of obstructing the government in carrying out its lawful function among other probable felonies.

 

So, the take-home message for the Trumpists is that they can get away with attacking the government without consequences.  So, expect to see more of it in the future.

What I expect is that in the next twenty years the US will break apart.  There is going to be a constitutional crisis driven by a coming demographic shift.  Within twenty years fifty percent of voters will live in eight states.  Since they will have migrated there they will be migrating to urban centers where the good jobs are.  And they will be or will become Democrats, since all the major urban centers are Democratic.  But the Electoral College will continue to allow the Republicans, who are a minority, to control the White House.  It will continue to be impossible to amend the Constitution to abolish the Electoral College, so the situation will become intolerable.  

 

The only way to fix it will be a new constitutional convention to write a new consitution, but I don't think America is capable of the level of compromise available in 1787 to write a new constitution.  So, the red states will separate from the Union.

CNN reports that some cabinet members are in preliminary discussions to remove Trump from office by invoking the 25th Amendment.  It would take eight out of the fifteen Cabinet members plus Pence.  Somehow I think Pence could be persuaded.  Getting the eight would be harder.

Foe cmarshall, the reason the rioters were not arrested is because there were so many of them.  have you not seen the videos, and know of all the cameras in the capital building. Those people who were in the building will be arrested shortly.

 

  Have a little patience, and maybe use a bit of common sense.  555.  I believe that we will all see many news stories in the next week or 2 and see some sad faces from all those fools who broke into the capital building. Did you not see all

the worried and scared faces from the people who work in that building. 

 

This event will not be over for a while.  I am waiting to see Trump get roasted by his fellow Republicans.  There will be a lot less Trump supporters after today.  Except for the fools that think he ever walked on water.
