I am currently doing my ASQ state quarantine in a nice hotel In Bangkok, check out 14th January. I have done my first Covid PCR test which returned negative and for a couple of days have been happily taking advantage of the alloted periods, twice a day, for a 1 hour garden / pool area walk.

This evening I heard that this was now cancelled for ASQ facilities for people travelling from the UK, for the entire 15 night stay.

I suspect that most people coming are resigned to staying the 15 nights in their room anyway but just a little heads up for future ASQers.

Reports that it is being enforced on all (Europeans?), not just people from the UK, depending on the hotel so anyone heading across soon may want to confirm with their hotel. Text sent to an Austrian from a thread linked below which was started by a Frenchman:

I am glad they are taking it seriously in Thailand.

Australia too; negative Covid test requirement kicking in to be able to fly (catching up with Thailand there) and seat numbers getting cut again. Think the South African strain has them slightly more worried than the UK strain (both been detected here) due to being unclear at this time if the vaccines will handle it.

I read yesterday that they have found cases of the highly contagious UK super strain variant in Brisbane and Perth. Brisbane got locked down again.

Yes, Brissie going for a quick 3 day from midnight I think it is. Seems logical to me, go fast to give time to suss it out then deal with it when a better idea of the challenges. Adelaide did something similar recently when the pizza guy lied (looked like a mystery infection as the dude lied about where he'd been), lock down lasted a day (maybe two?) because of that richard cranium.

It could, indeed, be clearer.

The meaning is:

"I think Brisbane has decided on a 3-day lockdown starting midnight. That seems logical, giving the authorities time to determine the scale of the problem and decide on further actions. Adelaide did something similar recently when an infected individual lied about his movements, leading the authorities to treat him as an unexplained case. Adelaide had a short lockdown as a result."

It is not suprising.  I am back in Buriram with my family after completing ASQ in December.  The UK government's handling of the virus has been a complete dissaster darling and unless you are travelling for family/ business then save your money and wait until there has been a vaccine roll-out in Thailand.
