Not only where and when can we register, what locations will the vaccine be available? Under present restrictions, this could be difficult. I will add. If inoculations will NOT be made available to British citizens in Thailand, or any other expats anywhere, WHY NOT?

OP,  surely your question is best directed to the british embassy?

Eh, cost of return flight and other expenses to report to the British Consul for a free jab. (Oh and don't forget to times that by 2) Verses a possibly free or very cheap inoculation in my village, I think that will be no contest.

 

And if they don't offer me a free or very cheap inoculation in my village, I'll probably not bother as the chances of me coming into contact with is virus are infinitesimally small anyway.

 

 

if you are resident in Thailand you are not a Resident of the UK and not paying the NHS, therefore no vaccination from the UK Government.

I don't think it is reasonable to expect the UK Government to provide or procure COVID vaccination protection for British citizens living in Thailand.This is a matter of personal responsibility.

 

I nevertheless believe it is very much the responsibility of the Consular Section to provide information and advice to British residents in Thailand on what steps can be taken when vaccine becomes available.In practice I suspect this will mainly involve advising which hospitals and clinics will provide vaccination support to expatriates.

 

At the moment the Embassy will have no more information than anyone else, and it may take several months for this to become available.So its pointless to bother them now.I have little doubt that when information  becomes available, it will be published on the Embassy website.

while working in mongolia, big fish in a small pool(!) i knew the british ambassador quite well, he had served in several countries and had a lot of experience. there is a lot more to embassy work than looking after citizens who, quite frankly, often get into trouble becasue of their own actions/omissions, a basic situation being no travel insurance...

 

there are a minority of tourists and ex-pats that seem to think the embassy should be there at their beck and call, that is simply not feasible. however i have seen embassy staff working extremely hard to support individuals in genuine need.

I am still paying taxes in the UK on my pension. For no return!!

I think this is part of the sentiment here. Many Brits feel that as they are paying, or have paid, high taxes in the UK (on pensions or investments such as rental property) that the consulate should do more to assist or at least making access to services easier i.e. being able to get an appointment a lot easier and without delay. Small services such as certifying documents or issuing residence letters for getting driving licences or freedom to marry etc. We are not talking about them handing out loans to get home or help with criminal matters here for the irresponsible. Passport issue and renewals is another topic that many feel should be easier too. OK so that's not currently the remit of the consulate but they are the face of the UK government here. It would be interesting to have a comparison of different nationalities and the services offered to them by their governments while here (US, CAN, AUS etc.).

My original post was directed to this forum in response to the British Embassys Consular Section request for such questions to be submitted here! In future please take care to observe forum protocol more carefully before placing foot in mouth.

it is great to be able to ask the British Embassy a question on Thai Visa Forum.

 

I wanted to ask the same question about vaccines too.

 

This probably is not a consular issue but are there any plans for the British government via the British Embassy to offer a COVID-19 vaccine to brits in Thailand?

I would assume that when a vaccine is actually available in Thailand, it will be your own responsibilty to arrange and pay for vaccinations, as you do for all your other medical treatment.

We really appreciate what a worrying time this is, and how important it is to have the right information about vaccines. At the moment there aren't any additional instructions for Brits living overseas. As soon as we have any, we will let you know in this forum and via our Travel Advice.

I'm a US citizen living in Thailand and asked this question of my embassy directly. Some moron replied back and told me to check with you Thai government and follow what their plans are for foreign nationals as the US state department doesn't have the funding to ship vaccines all over the world to take care of us. Oddly enough I read in the news today that America has a surplus of vaccine and will be helping foreign countries with Mexico to be the first in line. I'm sure everyone will get the same ???????? answers from your own embassies as well.

So it does!  . . . but I got sent it it as just a general post, without the context. 

Both khun wife and I have already had our invitation to receive our vaccinations courtesy of the NHS...in North London...which is most appreciated...however rather a long way to go...

Dont suppose they could pop them in the post...

On a slightly different vein...no pun...many years ago when working in Saudi Arabia I needed to get a couple of injections including the dreaded Yellow Fever scrape and they were arranged and carried out at the ...yes..the UK Embassy...so a precedence set....The jolly good old days...what...

Good answer.
Those over 60 in the UK no longer make NI contributions, and those of us with UK Pensions pay tax to the UK Government on those pensions, I certainly pay hundreds of Pounds a month tax on my pensions, and I'm not alone.
