Adoption

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone has any knowledge or experience of adopting a Thai child from an orphanage here in Thailand ?

Adoption

Charles,

Try a search, at the bottom of the page is a dialogue box, enter 'adoption', and have a scan thru, I have inserted a link above, not much help, but the general consensus is, it is very difficult to adopt and from an orphanage, well, but I am sure it can be done, I just do not know where to start.

Oh, and one other thing, please stop shouting, it is courtesy to speak in lower case and not bold in general speak, except when making a point about something, even then to be used in moderation.

Good Luck

Moss

Not all kids in the orphanage can be adopted, only those who got abandoned for more than at least 1 yr only (no family contact whatsoever during this time), check the list with the director. But if you're already in thailand you might want to try the fostering route first, less paperworks and later on along the road, if you still wish, you can apply for the legal adoption.

Anyway in the adoption process,

the very first stage for you is.... to get “ the clearance to adopt” paper from the assigned authority in your own country, mostly your backgrounds check. Then there will be bunches of paperwork and very lengthy process at the minimum of 18 mos and it could run to a few yrs.

Good luck

My wife,Thai, want to adopt her nephew;his mother never cared for him and is now married, with children, her husband don't even know about him.The father,my brother in law, cannot take care of the child that's already living with us,he began school today,Pathom 1.

Could anyone tell me if it's only a problem for my wife or I need to be involved in the process:if so what do I have to do?what are my responsibilities?need to involve the Embassy for the paperwork?

Thanx for every reply. :o
