TAK (NNT) - Local quarantine facilities and hospitals in Mae Sot, Tak will soon be hosting Thai nationals returning from Myawaddy, Myanmar. The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has stressed the need for strict screening and transmission prevention protocols for the arrival of these returnees.

Mr Thanitphol Chaiyanan, an advisor to the Deputy Minister of Public Health, has visited Mae Sot district of Tak province, together with the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health Dr Thongchai Kiratihathayakon, where they have observed the disease control checkpoint at Ban Huay Hin Fon village.

During their visit, the MOPH executives took part in a preparation meeting prior to the repatriation of Thai nationals from Myawaddy, across the border; they will be subject to screening, quarantine, and treatment of those testing positive to COVID-19.

The MOPH and local authorities have prepared a field hospital in Mae Sot, quarantine facilities, and a cohort ward at Mae Sot Hospital as part of the rapid response measure to mitigate the new wave of COVID-19 cases in the area.

Was in Mae Sot over New Year. Almost no tourists, restaurants and shops closed down like in other parts of the country. At the new bridge they built recently, there was a huge line of trucks (easily over a kilometre long) waiting to cross the border however. Not sure how this was managed. Did they change drivers or even trucks when moving goods from one side to the other? The queue suggested that there was at least a Covid related management process in place causing the congestion.

All infected spray them down. Hurd them all into buses and lock them away. MYANMAR ????
