another consequence of soured Brexit relations: Brussels has opened a new row by backing Greece’s long standing claim over the Elgin marbles. When the UK and Greece were both European Union members, the bloc remained above the fray and adopted a neutral position in the dispute.

They are a collection of sculptures, inscriptions and architectural features which originally formed part of the Parthenon temple and other structures on the Acropolis in Athens.

Lord Elgin, a Scottish nobleman, soldier and diplomat, has been accused of stealing them or bribing officials to remove them from the Parthenon at the beginning of the 19th century.

The Brexit trade deal included a clause which relates to the return of unlawfully removed cultural objects but both the UK and EU have said this refers more generally to stolen artefacts and not specifically to the Elgin marbles.

If you’re still talking early delays, yes still Remainers fault.
Brexit as an overall principle for the UK is still a great idea and we’re still loving it.

Why is Brexit a great idea?

What are the benefits of Brexit?

Scotland to become Britain’s ‘engine room’: Boris launches new plot to rescue Union
HUNDREDS of civil service jobs are being relocated to Scotland in a bid to increase support for the Union.

UK ministers have revealed plans to base more than 500 Foreign Office jobs in East Kilbride and 500 Cabinet Office positions in Glasgow. The 500 additional roles at the Foreign Office will bring their total number of staff in East Kilbride to 1,500 by 2025.

The new Cabinet Office base in Glasgow will function as a second UK HQ for the Government department and will support the UK Government’s Queen Elizabeth House base in Edinburgh, which opened last year.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps also announced creating a second headquarters in Birmingham bringing an initial 650 jobs to Birmingham and Leeds by the end of 2025.

Excellent news.........that really has cheered me up........what will little Lord Fontleroy do for a nanny now.......?

apparently there is a special plan to let young EU migrants fill unskilled job vacancies

Quote

The Youth Mobility Scheme, which currently allows under-30s from eight non-EU countries into the UK for a two-year period, is set to be extended to EU nations in any deal with Brussels.

It would enable businesses to hire young people to fill low- or unskilled  jobs in hospitality, agriculture and other sectors, with ministers setting a cap on numbers depending on the needs of the UK economy.

Brexit hostile environnement for foreign workers also means the end of au pairs

OMG. What on earth are those metropolitan labour voting middle class chattering North London Remainers going to do now?
Is this one of those Armageddon project fear, we must Remain, warnings coming home to roost? Bring it on. Another Brexit benefit. Put it on the list of things Remainers ignore.

Apparently, what the government says about au pair is "you don't need foreign young underpaid nannies anymore: you can now find them directly in the UK" .

People that want au pair will get them - because many of them likely have some influence...  it is the businesses that have not contributed enough to the coffers that will be left without the help they need.

Yes. And southerners to boot. Did nobody tell you about Labour’s swing?
You don’t seriously still believe that Labour is the party for the working man do you? I suppose that explains a lot. Have you actually been a working man in the current millennium?

The day is saved....au pairs are going to be reclassified (youth workers or some such?) so Tories won't run out of cheap labour or "horror", have to look after their own kids.

Only "southerners" have au pairs?

Labour is not who I vote for. Nevertheless they are definitely more supportive of the working class than right wing xenophobes like the Conservative party.

Absolute and total rubbish. If you believe that no wonder you believe in the other nonsense like Remaining in the EU.

Would you sign any form of contract with someone who has a history of tearing them up, as you suggested, soon after signing them?

If so, you are a fool.

Does that opinion apply then to all the trade deals Liz Truss has signed with about 70 countries?

Your delicate sensibilities don't apply in real business world, of which you obviously have no concept or experience.

But remember, the Withdrawal Agreement was signed and agreed by both sides over a year ago; and Johnson has since threatened several times to break that!

That was a precursor to a subsequent trade agreement, applied in good faith. So far this would also be deemed null and void, since there's been little good faith and it's not even been signed and ratified by the EU to date.
