Any tourist areas still worth a holiday?

Featured Replies

Looking to visit somewhere near the beach for 1-month or so but have been told most of the tourist areas are dead..

Living in Bangkok so wanted to spend some time away in April/May. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Agree. Just back in Phuket from two weeks around Krabi and especially Ao Nang. Stunning beaches and hotels really cheap at moment especially walk in prices (a great deal cheaper than online prices)

Sunderland this time of year is amazing! The largest Greg's in the world!

Koh Chang this weekend was great! Peaceful, nice hotels cheap! And not so far from BKK.

I thought Grimsby was closed.......30 years ago.

Just about anywhere you choose to go at present is uncrowded, cheap & only as
"dead" as you want it to be

Before some misery guts, manages to knock Pattaya, i agree with you.

The beaches are nice, koh larn is still.open, little traffic elsewhere.

Malls open and still plenty of bars and restaurants.

Its more lively than elsewhere in thailand.

All hotels empty everywhere. Boring and no atmosphere.

More fun to stay at home and watch “The Shining” instead.

With an attitude like that then yes, it's better you stay home.

Has anybody ventured to Koh Chang of late?

I really like it down there and interesting to hear that walk in prices are far cheaper as opposed to Agoda etc

Mind you, if it's so dead, there are plenty of resort places in Isaarn offering peace and quiet, OK, there no beaches as such or actual hotel discounts as they tend to usually get local trade up here.

I'm not at home. I'm touring Thailand staying at hotels which are all near empty with little or no atmosphere.

But thanks anyway for your post, even though you assumed incorrectly.

I understand your feelings about atmosphere.

Overcrowded,is not nice,but seeing nobody,is boring.

Its anice feeling, when on holiday, seeing people having fun and enjoying themselves.

I like that atmosphere in pattaya, even after visiting, for years and now living here..

Rawai in Phuket is doing ok and easy to get to some islands

You are welcome.

Just out of interest, did you expect everywhere to be packed?

Koh Chang is Quiet and still beautiful,  but but not dead some bars/ pubs with live music, saw rooms advertised for 250b. Just a heads up on BKK bank, it is closed on island for the time being.

phuket is lovely now...... few tourists, no traffic,

Outside of Patong, Karon and Kata its life as usual for a low season
