libya 115
SOURCE: Pattaya Daily News: May 15th 2007 FOREIGN BURGLAR CAUGHT ON CCTV STEALING FROM A PATTAYA HOTEL! A CCTV detected a foreign burglar tiptoeing inside the hotel checking unlocked rooms to find something to steal. A sketched picture was sent out to all hotels to be on guard and to warn about the thief. On the 13th of May 2007, at 00.20 am, Pol.Lt.Col. Manote Bamphenthan, South Pattaya Investigator, received a call that there was a break-in at Sawasdee View Hotel, located at 327, Pattaya Soi 10, Pattaya beach road, Moo 10, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. He then rushed to the scene of the crime. The incident took place on the 4th floor, room No. 426 of the said hotel. Mr. Tsutomo Dkamoto, (38),a Japanese Citizen was the hotel guest and was waiting for assistance. Police found evidence of the luggage being searched. Clothes were scattered around the room and a belt bag was missing. Valuable things inside the belt bag included a mobile phone, 2 credit cards and a passport. The victim stated that he went out for dinner at around 6:00pm. When he returned to his room, he found out that his luggage has been searched and the belt bag was stolen. Without delay, he reported it to the hotel staff and they checked the CCTV. They indentified an intruder who looked like a Middle-Eastern man, around 25-30 yrs old. It was discovered that the thief entered the hotel from the fire escape staircase. He searched for rooms that were unlocked and were empty in order to steal from the missing guests . The camera illustrated a clear view of the burglar’s face that tried to search unlocked rooms lasting for 20 minutes, until he discovered room No. 426 was unlocked and the guest was away, then he finally committed the crime. Initially, police assumed that the burglar could have stayed in hotel before due to knowing the hotel access very well. However, police has the sketch of the burglar from the camera and will distribute the sketch to all hotels to keep an eye on to bring the burglar to arrest. Police believed that the thief was a guest before in the said hotel due to the very well knowledge of accessing the hotel. On the other hand, the police have the sketch of the burglars face extracted from the camera and initiated to distribute to all hotels to catch and to be warned about the thief. Libya - doesn't say he was an Arab - says he was of "Middle Eastern appearance". So are Iranis, Lebanese, Israelis and others who would be more offended at being called Arabs than being called thieves. And all that repetition of knowing what the guy looked like, but no identikit image.
cali4995
Doesn't say much about hotel security when even though they have a CCTV, the thief is allowed to skip from room to room seeing if someone forgot to lock their door. Then he has time to enter the room and search for something of value to steal. Then he is able to exit the premises without being noticed. These types of crimes must happen many times everyday in Pattaya, and still, the security at 90% of the hotels is absolutely laughable.

Maigo6
But who in their right minds leaves the bedroom door unlocked? Maybe he thought he was still in Japan. Or it could have been the time when the hotel cleaning staff clean out the rooms.
BigSnake
Close Circuit TV(CCTV) can be a blessing, however it be an darkhorse to the right to privacy.
Humphrey Bear
Checked up on the photo in PDN. One could almost recognise the guy if it wasn't for the "Pattaya Daily News" logo stamped over his face. (And he looks French to me ) Edited May 16, 2007 by Humphrey Bear

ilyushin
Isn't the 4th floor taboo for Japanese? Guess for this victim anyway. S Some hotel rooms in Pattaya are easier to open than close. Edited May 16, 2007 by ilyushin
