Having learned their  lesson with Covid and forever keen to  bring tourists  back to Thailand on a  trip today to James  Bond Island where there was  virtually  no one there, my Wife informs  me Thais 60 baht, Farlang 300  baht.

Good to see things improving.

The double pricing debate surfaces regularly on this forum and I have not once read one single argument which soundly justifies the practice.

If you're going to get upset about $10 for traveling to an internationally famous tourist destination, you're going to get ulcers or high blood pressure.  Maybe both.

Debate aside: I entered Koh Samet (which is a national Park) with my Pink ID and received the same price as my Wife.

It seems some parks are more strict on charging foreigners the 10x rate than others.

There have been a ton of posts on analogous dual pricing "back home", along with several good explanations about why they'd give a discount to locals as a legitimate business practice or gub'ment policy.

I’m fine with double pricing as long as Thais are charged 6 times as much as me in my home country to enter parks, zoos, etc. Otherwise it’s simply unacceptable. And I pass on the opportunity. The more of us that do that the less likely this policy will be applied.

I know a pair of idiots who bought a house and paid twice what it was actually worth, perhaps more common that you would appreciate.

I know what it's worth because I know how much some of the other houses in the row (all built at the same time) were sold for - they have no idea either as I haven't told them ????

Thanks  goodness  in the UK we  have the land registry telling us the exact price  property  has  sold for.

I always found squeezing into the trunk saved me a lot of baht on entrance fees.

Somewhat uncomfortable for about 20 minutes but never had to pay and they never questioned all the luggage and miscellaneous junk in the back seat.

Recently watched a youtube video where a young farang and his Thai gf visited Koh Poda in the same area. Paid 2,000 bht for a long tail boat trip, boat operator conveniently forgot to mention they also had to pay an island access fee of 40/400 bht.

I accept the pricing if I think it's reasonable, walk away if it's not.

that is the only way to look at it.  This constant duel price whinging on this forum is intensely boring.  So it was less than $1 for a Thai and an exorbitant, huge cost of, what,  $10 for a farang.  Go or don't go, just stop whining about it.

Its only worth what someone will pay for it. To put it another way, it's value is whatever you can get.  That's the same as in any commercial transaction.

Double pricing doesn't just happen in Thailand. In my city in the UK, I can gain entry to museums and attractions for free by showing my council tax bill and ID, whereas a Thai person or someone from another town would be charged, and they charge a lot more than in Thailand. In the same vein, most Thais pay tax in Thailand, so get a subsidised rate. A lot of tourists call this practice racist but it is probably happening in your home country also.

But foreigners who live here and pay tax should not be charged extra. Should it be abolished? I don't know, but it's not necessarily racist to charge more to people who don't pay tax here, no matter how much they give to barladies.

In England museum entrance is free for everyone (special exhibitions sometimes charge), the advertised ticket price is just a suggested donation. Until last week I was entering 3-4 times a week, V&A is amazing, National gallery and British Museum also worthwhile.

It's probably because, as a farang, you refer to yourself, rather oddly, as a "farlang"!

Double pricing, if foreigners really were charged or expected to pay much more than a Thai for MAJOR purchases, then reason to complain, pay higher entry to National Parks to fund the upkeep, nah fellas you are just miserable tight gits!!

Hardly the same:

I'm sure most on this forum would be happy if they got charged the Thai rate on production of their pink card/yellow book(sometimes happens), as opposed to automatically you're a rich foreigner on holiday so it's x times.

My wife in London doesn't pay any more than me just because she's Thai.

Didn't get wealthy by spending on overpriced dual priced items.  Value means a lot, when a non Thai migrant pays the same as a Thai and goes through a different gate then a foreigner/expat/tourist then there is a scam to lessen what one carries in their pockets and fatten someone else's.

Farangs pay 300B because they want to see James Bond Island. From a movie from 1974 - almost 50 years ago!

Thai pay just the minimum because they are not interested in that old movie. They go there because some farang told them he wants to go there. ????

You don't get it do you? Any Thai person who goes to live in UK as a spouse, a worker, a student will get the same discount. A Local discount not based on nationality or racism. Same in US.
