A representative of Laem Yamu village of Paklok, Thanasak Ritrak submitted a letter to Phuket Governor Nirund Kalayanamit to object to a marina project proposed to be built by a foreign company in their village. The project earlier had been approved by a provincial environment committee and passed on to the central government for consideration focusing on the environment. The villagers claimed that the new development will affect the local livelihood as well as the natural resources diversity there. The letter also stated that the company which is making the preparation had occupied a public road which is used by local fishermen there. The Phuket Governor said he had ordered the provincial committee which is chaired by the Vice Governor Worapote Ratasrima to gather information and arrange a public hearing. If the conclusion indicates that the project affects the environment and that local villagers do not want the new development, the project will not be approved. The governer however stressed that all parties will be treated fairly.

The Phuket Provincial Chief of Administration Piya Paratasilapil held a meeting with responsible agencies to report and discuss the management, obstacles and measures to improve the One Stop Service for yachts at the Chalong pier on the island’s southern area. The issues raised during the meeting were Customs mandates for registration and fee collection from boat skippers while 30 buoys went missing out of 100 under the Chalong Sub-District Administration’s responsibility. The Provincial Administration Organization is responsible for the Tourist Information Centre to secure their safety 24 hours a day. They concluded that the fee collection is still a small amount while the policy is to serve tourists to their utmost satisfaction. Mr. Piya asked all related agencies to prepare for him the integrated plans for the One Stop Service by May 25th to present to a provincial committee for consideration and resolve any problems.
