A gang of Chinese loan sharks offering small loans for large registration fees and interest rates have been busted in Bangkok.

The mastermind is in China but three Chinese acting in Thailand have been arrested.

Naew Na reporting on the activities of the Immigration Bureau said that there were 20,000 Thais getting loans with 30 million baht in circulation.

The police had received complaints about apps called Negu, Nice Loan, Cash Card and Cash Loan that were headquartered at a business address in Tha Kham, Bang Khun Thian, Bangkok.

Police armed with arrest warrants went there and to a house in Sathupradit Soi 41 in the Yanawa area of the Thai capital where 30 Thais were working for the company. Computers, phones and 20 accounts books were taken into evidence.

Three Chinese people were arrested: Ms Wei, 34, Ms Hai,30 and Mr Yu, 34.

They were charged with loan sharking.

They were working for a Mr Wang who is in China.

As an example of the loans offered, Naew Na said that if you wanted to borrow 2,000 baht you were only given 1,300 baht.

You then had to repay the full amount after seven days when 7% interest would be levied.

Failure to pay this resulted a fine of 100 baht and a further 1% interest per day.
