I know, not the most exciting of topics! Alas, can anyone point me to where I can buy some real super (super) glue, maybe on Lazada?

Trying to stick some small things, small ornament/dolls on top of the car dash but the glue the wife had worked initially but they fell off after a few days.

Cheers.

Very possible the superglue used was simply too old, espeically if the glue bottle/tube had already been used, as superglue life is not long at all.

From my own personal experience I have found if the superglue is more than a year old then it simply don't have much strength....does not harden like when fresh.   (Now "old superglue" will still do a great job of gluing your fingers together  making you think the glue is still A-Number-One.)

Go buy a new bottle of superglue (cheap or pricey) and ensure its shelf life is not expired (shelf life is only around a year) and try regluing....I think you will get much better results.   I know I sure have "numerous" times after trying to glue something together with my two year old bottle of superglue....go buy a new cheapie bottle and the results are like night and day.

See below article for more info....it matches up with my personal experience of superglue that is around a year or more old will not have a lot of strength....doesn't dry properly....doesn't harden properly....but still does a great job of gluing your fingers together.

Unopened bottles of cyanoacrylate have a shelf life of 12-15 months (so check dates and make sure you buy from fresh inventory). Since polymerization is temperature-dependent, and storage below the freezing point of water stops the process, the life of unopened bottles can be extended by storing them in a freezer. You need to allow frozen CA to warm to room temperature, and completely dry off any condensation, before opening. Never store opened bottles in the freezer, they’ll just go bad.

CA can last about 6-12 months once opened, although some opened versions last as little as one month. You can extend the life of your opened cyanoacrylate by storing it in a cool, completely dry place. You must keep the moisture in the air away from the cyanoacrylate. The easiest way I have found to do this is to store the opened CA bottles in a glass mason jar filled with silica gel desiccant packets.

Will also add I wouldn't use any glue that dries "hard" like superglue on your car dash; instead, use something that is still flexible when dried like "shoe glue or silicone/RTV."

Ok appreciate it. Any specific suggestions, names etc?

And you're right, it did dry hard, could just snap it off the ornament after it had fell off.

No....just go into most any store like Lotus, Big C, hardware store, 20 baht store, etc., but the cheapest you can fine....absolutely no need for any so called pricey brand name.

Also, double-sided foam tape should work but unless using some of the pricey 3M foam tape it will probably dry out pretty quick on a car dash which get VERY HOT when the vehicle is parked.  A non-hardening glue would probably be better...like shoe glue.

Yeap, OP said it wanted superglue because the superglue he was using was not working well....probably too old.  But even if not too old he shouldn't be using superglue for the task of gluing stuff to his car dash.....just not the right kind of glue to use for this task.  He needs to use a glue that does not dry hard....like shoe glue/silicone/RTV.   Plus, superglue could do damage to the dash...just not the right kind of glue to be using on a car dash.

Meh, I was just answering the question.

Just ordered one from overseas, so you never know it 'might' work. I didn't bother finding out where it's coming from, but if I was a betting man...

I had one called “ Hot Glue “ I believe it was Scotch brand, ( bought it at the local 20 baht shop but haven’t found it anywhere else since ) it worked very well, but the best thing was it wasn’t instant giving you the all important few seconds to get the alignment right.

I find that the ones in the tubes are more user friendly than the bottles, they tend to be very watery and in the hands of a careless gf ( ???? ) can make one hell of a mess. !!

The problem with plastic and glue is that you need to know which glue you can use for which plastic. For instance the super glue will not glue plastic like the one used for the tip where it comes out.

In respect of glue getting old and hard - to avoid this store it in a cold refrigerator and it will hold very long even if opened already.

I did see a gel type superglue here once. Would be much better than ones I have bought here. They stick ok but man its like water, runs everywhere and almost impossible to get off. Even me knowing its so thin and being super careful still manage to get it every where

If you make sure it’s in a totally sealed container then the freezer is an even better storage place. I have super glue that works perfectly and is a couple of years old, in our freezer.

Loctite 401 is a good all round glue but one should consider the application as there are super glues for specific range of applications.

We use 408 to lock ferrite beads permanently, nasty stuff.

I'm not sure of your needs, but.... If you search Facebook for Gorilla Glue Thailand their product line is available here....

Superglue does no stick polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE) plastics which car parts are usually made of.

As previously recommended by another poster, a tube of silicone would be your best bet.
