BANGKOK (NNT) - The Khok Nong Na Model project is a royal initiative that can be applied to everyone’s daily life. It helps build sustainability especially during the current uncertain world situation.

According to Dr. Wiwat Sankamthon from the Sufficiency Economy Institute, the "Khok Nong Na Model" is a solution to problems related to water and farming area management. The new agricultural concept is based on local wisdom and the Sufficiency Economy philosophy initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The model divides land into four parts: 30 percent for irrigation water storage, 30 percent for growing rice, 30 percent for growing a mixture of plants and the remaining 10 percent reserved for residential and livestock areas.

The key principle of the Khok Nong Na Model is to store sufficient water by focusing on storage of water in three main areas: marsh, mound and rice field. That means no matter how large a farmer’s plot of land is, if the land is managed appropriately and gradually, it leads to sustainability.
