I see this as very unlikely.

We will see over the coming weeks how the current Thai outbreak develops but I suggest the odds are it will take additional lockdown measures to bring under control. If you remember the first lockdown in March 2020, all manner of businesses were shut down for 6-8 weeks and, in Bangkok at least, we had a 10pm-4am curfew.

Now, this is clearly a more serious outbreak but we also now more about COVID by this stage. Will be interesting to see how if the Thai government responds similarly to last year. Businesses are already being ‘strongly encouraged’ to work from home for at least the rest of April, and shopping malls are shutting earlier. Many entertainment venues are already shut.

Anyhow, I think the current outbreak has a while to run yet, so I doubt the political appetite will be there to re-open to tourists while the wider Thai population are still heavily impacted.

We all know the solution but unfortunately the government has messed up its vaccine acquisition program. A huge oversight if opening up the country to foreign tourists is seen as important. I can’t forsee any impactful numbers of tourists before 2022 and it will clearly take a few years for the industry just to get back on its feet.

As for recovering to 2019 tourism levels ? That might take five years.

If every single person is injected before July with sinovac..........only half them will be vaccinated........

Sinovac have already publicly announced the effectiveness of their vaccine is lower than others.

What is not know yet is if you can pass on covid after being vaccinated or catch a new strain.

No one on this planet knows what long term side effects will be, we haven't got there yet.

Yes and even early days we do know there are major problems with AZ and now J&J and Pfizer will require 3 shots in less than 12 months. Goal posts are moving already.

Having read up further it seems it is 100% effective at preventing serious covid effects and death.......the 50% is related to preventing mild symptoms......very confusing!

That, @ezzra, is a question that belongs in a threat about the Ministry of Health.
TAT cannot be responsible for everything, and focuses on getting the Tourism Sector on track ALAP.

Good article in the Pattaya News on this....depends on your insurance....... what funds you have....... what choices you make and what facilities are available.........anything from a 5* hotel to a field hospital are your (potential) options

1 Headline reads 965 new cases of Covid and then this idiot says all good to let tourist in July 1st you just can't teach stupid you either have it or you don't and the Governor has it in spades

Of course they can come, as they are only coming to test that their vaccinations work or are coming to contract the virus to take home.
