Modern? It's been around since I can remember. Yes, freshly mixed powdered is better of course. What's the oil for, seems pointless? I've never seen that done.

Put a thin layer of oil on top keeps the air out and it helps with keeping it from drying out,and retaining strength, maybe! Works with lots of stuff Quacamol springs to mind.

Oh, on top sure, good idea. I thought it meant mixed in!

4 pages of comments about Colman's English Mustard. Who would have thought it?

Many, many thanks to all the people who have messaged me about how to order it cheaply (I have replied to some but not all).

I will have some in my hands soon, thank you so much.

My ham sandwiches and home-made burgers are now going to be amazing (to me, but obviously not to the locals).

You could add a photo or 2 of your home made burgers to the 'food porn' thread to keep it alive.

That's nuts, more than ten times the price in the UK. I'll just have to be conservative when using it. How can something that costs 50 baht in the UK end up costing 500-600 baht in Thailand?

Import duties, transport, taxes, VAT, extra profit paid by Farang, etc.

But, a pot of 170 grams costing 139 baht at Lazada isn't 600 baht, is it.

Or a tin of 113 grams of powdered Colman's for 189 baht doesn't break the bank also.

And as, already said there are alternative mustards here that are the same taste and even a little stronger. Masterfoods for one.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got my Colman's today. Was in date, and had two toasted ham sandwiches with it, I was very, very generous with it. Almost no flavour, it's just like yellow mayonnaise. I suspect that is has not been kept at a suitable temperature. A complete let down.

Interested to know what people prefer in the way of Dijon mustard available here. When Carrefour was sold I stocked up on their items that I was partial to like Dijon mustard, olives, etc. I basically cleared the shelves of these items until they no longer stocked them. I have long finished all of these items except for the last bottle of Carrefour Dijon mustard. I do like the powdered Chinese mustard but would like to have Dijon on occasion.

Anythings possible I guess. Do try the Masterfoods hot English  mustard and report back to us. I've bought it in TOPS and Villa Market. Hits the roof of your mouth nicely. Otherwise your pallet has become jaded with age or a surfeit of bird's eye chilis (I'm a chili fiend but Masterfoods still works)
