AYUTTHAYA (NNT) - Health officials have conducted the second active case finding operation at the Central Farmers’ Market in Ayutthaya. The provincial governor said everyone in the market must have a negative COVID-19 test certificate before reopening.

About 380 people at the farmers’ market in Ayutthaya today got their second test for COVID-19, to ensure they don’t carry the virus.

Health officials had previously found 34 cases of COVID-19 from an active case finding operation among 1,400 people, including merchants and villagers.

The second test today was performed to ensure people who are deemed to have high exposure risk to COVID-19 actually do not carry the virus, as the first test could return a false negative if performed too early.

The Governor of Ayutthaya Phanu Yaemsri said the market can reopen once every single merchant and worker has their COVID-19 test certificate, in order to regain the confidence of consumers.

He said the Provincial Administrative Organization must be responsible for ensuring good hygiene at the facility, with some renovations required.

A makeshift plan has been prepared to set up temporary tents housing market stalls, while the actual market building is renovated to comply with hygiene standards. Merchants and workers at the markets are asked to help prevent the transmission of any disease.

Governor Phanu said the reopening date of the Central Farmers’ Market will be discussed at the Provincial Communicable Diseases Committee meeting on Monday, along with additional measures to control the situation.
