webfact
Picture: Naew Na Naew Na reported the new shop opening and closing times as per a notice from the Thai Retailers' Association and the Thai Chamber of Commerce. The measures were ordered by the Covid steering committee the CCSA and apply from today May 1st in six "Deep Red" areas of Thailand namely Bangkok, Chonburi (Pattaya) Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani and Chiang Mai. Malls, community malls and department stores can open from 11am to 8pm only. Supermarkets and hypermarts inside and outside malls will open at the normal time but must close by 9pm. (This discrepancy re: 8pm and 9pm at malls was not explained). Convenience store can open between 5am and 10pm. (elsewhere this was reported as 4am, notes Thaivisa). Restaurants in malls are takeout only. Reports elsewhere refer to ALL restaurants following this regulation until closure at 9pm. The measures are in place until further notice. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-05-01 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1

Probably because it's not really difficult to understand. For example a Tops inside a Central Plaza can open until 9pm, but all other shops have to close by 8pm. In general it's of course quite stupid to limit the opening times, it will just result in bigger crowds. Maybe they want Covid to spread? Despite the restriction of opening times, I myself have not noticed any increase in crowding in these stores (during the last two lockdowns). I think due to the restricted hours more people are just hesitant to go out and shop. Might actually just help the stores save a little money by not being open till 11pm when there's no one comming :)

natway09
Food shops agree, the malls should be closed altogether, just airconditioned meeting places to catch Covid
