Eight hospitals in Thailand have been temporarily closed after their medical personnel became infected with COVID-19, or had to be quarantined, because a number of patients concealed facts about their infections.

The hospitals are:

  • Mae Sai Hospital in Chiang Rai province, closed until May 16th. 88 medics quarantined.
  • Chumsaeng Hospital in Nakhon Sawan province, closed until May 7th. 1 medic infected.
  • Ruam Paet Chai Nat Hospital 1 in Chai Nat province, closed until May 12th. 1 medic infected.
  • Nong Muang Hospital in Lop Buri province, closed until May 14th. 1 one employee infected.
  • Samphran Hospital in Nakhon Pathom province, surgical ward closed until May 10th. 40 medics quarantined.
  • Bor Phud Hospital on Samui Island in Surat Thani province, closed until May 14th. 7 medics quarantined.
  • Pipoon Hospital in Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital, closed until tomorrow. 2 medics infected.
  • Ratsada Hospital in Trang province, closed until May 31st. 34 medics infected.

Seems complete nonsense to me to close 3 hospitals for 1 confirmed infection in each. By that reckoning the first infection of airport baggage staff will completely close the airport again for 14 days

  • Couldn't of happened at a worse time. Though can understand the reluctance of people who are threatened with hospitalisation or even worse a cardboard bunk in a field hospital simply for just returnin

  • why were these medical personnel not vaccinated !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Like I have said previously - front line services - medical and support staff, transport - police etc should now have all

Though I think the question needs to be asked in pandemic times were not all the medical staff in these hospitals wearing the correct ppe when dealing with patients during an outbreak?????

They will now. Medical professionals are human too.

I was curious about Trang hospital, as it’s the only one on the list with many personnel confirmed to be infected, as opposed to being isolated as a precaution. So, I looked a little further:

In all, 34 staff at the hospital have contracted Covid-19, with test results on another 50 staff due back today.

So, they are really infected, and there could be many more.

More likely they were always a carrier or perhaps were actually infected by a family member or "acquaintance" outside of work

Who is to say this medic/worker didn't go to lunch at some cart in a back soi & catch it??

That aside this is an asinine response to one  medic being infected etc during a time they claim to be short on hospital space

Do they think workers dealing with people who may have a cold may not eventually...possibly catch a cold? Mask or not...face shield or not

No... this is typical Thai Standard Operating non thinking procedures

Do you think for a minute if a large ASQ Hotel turns up one positive quarantined customer or worker they will close the ASQ Hotel??

Never happen ????

Let this whole Covid inasanity be a lesson learned for anyone thinking of calling a totally inept government their country home base

Soon it will be like being trapped in Las Vegas in "The Stand"

vs Colorado 555

I thought every medical professional treats every patient assuming the patient has something bad. Or not?

How does someone "conceal" they have covid, it's not as if they can self test and diagnose, besides, anyone presenting with any cold/flu like symptoms should be treated as a possible covid case, and treated as such.. this seems like they are trying to divert responsibilities.

I thinks it’s that they haven’t been possibly honest about being a close contact of a know case

You are joking aren’t you? Surely the question is why haven’t these hospital staff been vaccinated!

now 8 hospitals closed just when they are needed. SMH.

I suppose some of the vaccines given to hotel workers in phuket to guard them against non existent vaccinated tourists COULD have been given to these hospital workers, couldn’t it?

Well, we know that Thailand isn't mass testing, we also know some patients ah being sent away from hospitals, with "pneumonia" to recover, so, if one, or more are in fact covid positive, just who is responsible.. also, this highlights the poor contact tracing abilities... but as I said, anyone presenting with cold/flu like symptoms, should be quarantined, testing and treated.

One infected, close down a whole hospital, full of patients. Meaning they have to be transported to somewhere else with ambulances and all the rest circus. Where is the logic in that. The absurdity lest just goes up and up with these policies.

Where is Bor Phud Hospital in Samui ???  I have never heard of that one !

The vaccine mismanagement whether through greed or to keep a certain narrative alive is badly backfiring on them now.

What other time could it happen? When there's no pandemic? Patients constantly lie to their doctors and always have.

And no, I guess you have not been to a hospital recently. The reception staff, the nurses that check your blood pressure, the general doctors at clinics, etc. - they are not in full hazmat suits with oxygen tanks. In fact other than a surgical face mask they have no other protection.

Only those in inpatient area, COVID parts, are sealed off and wearing all protective gear.

Maybe they were, but being vaccinated doesn't mean they can't spread Covid.

Tell that to the girl who took my blood test sample this morning...????

It may seem ridiculous until you consider that in these hospitals staff have been detected who as of victims of selfish behaviour have in the interim possibly passed infection on unwittingly. That necessitates track and trace of how many daily patients ?

When the question is asked about medical staff vaccinations the problem is that the only vaccine that has been readily available is the Sinovac which is limited in providing protection other than lessening severity of symptoms rather than that provided by Astra Zenica which even that at best is no total guarantee either.

So sad, the swab takes 10 seconds or less.

So given the massive rise in infections in Thailand, why not have a team dedicated to testing, processing all hospital arrivals in full PPE in every hospital.

At least some hospitals, if not all, have different entrance for those suspected of COVID not to mingle with other patients and hospital staff. But, some patients hide their risk factors and go through main entrance, where only diagnostics many have is a thermal camera. Some patients go as far as taking several medications to drop fever before walking into hospitals to bypass thermal cameras.

I think such behaviour should be severely punished.

As for hazmat suits - it is very annoying thing to wear for any prolonged time, on top of each of them being quite pricey. Proper PPE masks that seal your face also ruin your skin after a few hours of wearing them. That's not just imagination. Google up the Chinese nurses photos at the peak of Wuhan outbreak, who were wearing protective equipment through entire shift every day... the ones that wrote their names on the hazmat to recognise each other. They aged 30 years in a month and had scars all over their faces.

Finally imagine sending 80 year old fragile lady to hospital and fully protected alien looking staff greets her at the entrance... she'll have a heart attack right there.

It's just not practical to do this to all the medical staff and service staff.
