You probably cannot end this pandemic with Sinopharm.

You can do it with Pfizer, as Israel did.

this virus will never go away.  Experts are predicting a wave this upcoming flu season.  But in the end, it's not the infections that count, it's the number of hospitalizations.  Millions get the flu every year, hundreds of thousands die.  Annual flu shots help to reduce these numbers.  And the same will be ongoing for covid for a very long time.

Sinopharm will keep you out of the ICU.  It won't keep you from getting the virus and spreading it on.  And the Seychelles is only at 60% vaccination.  And other reports have indicated this rise in infections is due to them letting their guard down, not wearing masks, not social distancing, not protecting themselves.

Hopefully, more jabs will be coming out soon that have a better efficacy.  Until then, the Chinese ones help keep people out of the ICU.

Ending the pandemic doesn't mean the virus has gone away. It means it has become endemic,  with sporadic infections,  maybe severe ones.  But no more tsunamis of sick flooding hospitals.

Yes, and letting tourists in too early.

Which other country do you know that wants the tourists to return in July,  even hardly anybody in the whole country is vaccinated?

Correct.

Actually,  better jabs are here already but not available for most people in the world. Because of hoarding (Canada), patents, production bottlenecks, because someone wants a kickback or because a locally produced vaccine is exported (EU, Russia, China).

With this virus it's not a good strategy to just go for preventing hospitalization. At some point people will give up wearing masks. With such an infectious virus so capable of producing more capable variants, the idea of boosters is good for mopping up, not being an annual exercise for the entire world.

I was listening to a podcast with one of the US governments experts on this virus.  Basically, what he was saying, deaths and hospitalizations are the key issues.  Cases, not so much.  If millions get the virus, but due to jabs, don't end up in the hospital or dead, then we're good!

This will be like the annual flu for a very long time.  Boosters will be a part of life.  Heck, they already are.

That's all well and good when good vaccines are being used. On other threads, people have been arguing about whether US Embassy can operate a vaccination program for Americans. That's nothing compared to the logistics of annual Covid boosters for the world. Such universal vaccinations largely concern a one-shot for life campaign. Flu is not like that. It's an option for old people.

Have AstraZeneca & J&J any data for showing the boosters will not be defeated by the immune system because the vaccine's viral vector is detected? We may have to use some other vaccine as booster.

They're in talks to buy it, but haven't yet.  They're also in talks to buy Pfizer, Moderna and J&J.  Just like pretty much every other country in the world.

Russia could have gotten a home run on this if they had just released the clinical trial data.  Sad they didn't.  And thus, the hesitancy to use this jab.  Even in Russia! LOL

"Over 60% of Russians don't want Sputnik V vaccine" - this is just a propaganda trick sentence. The truth is "Over 60% of Russians don't want any vaccine". One of the main reasons for this is the corruption scandal with vaccines in Russia about 10 years ago.

Looks like a common gesture of courtesy. Everybody knows that Pfizer/Moderna is for internal use only. They will not be exported from EU/US in significant quantities. This is because of transportation issues. AZ is the only export-ready vaccine. And it is already used there.

Really?  You need a better source for your news.  The company doing the import of Moderna here upgraded it's cold storage rooms last year in preparation for this.

1.4 billion ordered by the EU already, another 1.8 for the next few years.

Dozens of countries outside the EU/US have ordered or are already using these vaccines.  For example, neighboring philippines has already received shipments of Pfizer and they just signed a massive deal for more.  They also already made a similar deal with moderna.

Many countries have ordered Pfizer. I suggest they receive about 100 000 doses/month. It does not matter how much  have been ordered and in what country outside the US/EU. They cannot get more than 100k/month. But Sinovac`s typical delivery is about 0.5 - 1m per month.

Friendofthai is either Russian or Chinese and mainly does positive posts about their jabs, and negative ones about all the others.  Trolling at it's worst.

This is nonsense. Probably Chinese govt disinformation:

"Israel and Pfizer agreed to their first vaccine deal in November. The drug company, together with its partner BioNTech, supplied Israel with an unspecified number of doses, and the Finance Ministry said it paid NIS 2.6 billion ($785 million).

Israel still has enough vaccines to fully inoculate the remaining unvaccinated population, while giving a single shot to recovered COVID-19 patients, Health Ministry Director-General Chezy Levy has said.

Israel is in fact a part of the Western world, a western country actually. So does Australia and NZ, although formally they are not in EU.

The key word is "expecting". And what if I say that I am expecting to sleep with 3 beautiful Thai ladies this night. I have a right to expect such a pleasure, don't I?
If we forget about their "expectations", we will see what they actually get - the old good ~100k+ package per month ( https://gmanetwork.com/news/news/nation/786947/193k-pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine-doses-arrive-in-philippines/story/ ).

If they get 100k+/month - this is 1m/year and the next year they will have to vaccinate people again. So I expect about 1m people pfizered in many countries in this world. I suggest the US does it for research purposes. To collect and analyze efficiency data of the vaccine.

How about Mexico?  You really need to do some more research before posting.  Makes you look silly.

Pfizer has shipped more than 10 million doses to Mexico so far, becoming its largest supplier of COVID-19 vaccine.

As Mexico's vaccine rollout struggles with a delay of 1.5 million Sinovac doses, Pfizer kicked off its plan to export U.S.-made shots and has delivered some to Mexico.

Again, misinformation.  And if related to the virus, is illegal here in Thailand.

And everyone knows why. Because of two reasons

1. There are no transportation problems with Mexico. It is very close to USA. So does Canada.
2. After Biden has destroyed the Trump`s wall, it is necessary to prevent importing of COVID with Mexican illegal migrant workers.

We see that even delivery of several hundreds of doses is a big problem for Pfizer/Moderna.

"In Russia, some State Department personnel appealed to Moscow for doses of its Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine after Washington could not promise the delivery of U.S.-made vaccine doses in the near future, officials said."
But the regime still has not recommend it for its people: "The State Department is not recommending its employees take it". Therefore, people are forced to make a difficult choice between safety and career.

Smart decision by the State Department. Don't take vaccines that haven't been fully vetted. Most Russians seem to feel the same way.
