Tragedy struck on Sukhumvit Road on Sunday night near the Chaiyapreuk lights on the side bound for Chonburi when a Mercedes Benz collided with a female motorcycle taxi rider.

Police  and rescue workers at the scene found the Honda Wave 110cc wedged into the front fender of the black car with Bangkok plates.

The car had a smashed windshield on the driver's side.

Mr Langer, 29, a German national was driving the car.

Given CPR at the scene but soon pronounced dead was 21 year old Rungnapha who worked the Soi Nor Jap Tao rank.

Witnesses said that the woman had been shooing away some soi dogs that had gathered in the road when the Benz arrived at speed and hit her from behind propelling her into the windshield of the car.

It was unclear from the report whether she had slowed or stopped because of the dogs.

Mr Langer is helping police with their inquiries. Pol Lt Thanathorn Le-arun, in charge of the case, is also studying CCTV to get to the truth of the matter, reported Sanook yesterday.

Sounds to me like the Benz driver ploughed into the back of her and killed her, hardly a dog related death, more like foreigner who wasn't watching where he was going.

Careless driving by the Benz driver...not paying attention to the road ahead. R.I.P. the young lady......a complete waste of life.

she should not stop in the middle of the road its dangerous. No way of knowing if she turned off her bike (no real light then) or not. The guy probably drove too fast but to have a stationary object in the middle of the road all of a sudden would have had a lot of us in trouble too (me for sure) others better drivers would probably have no problem. I just know that even if im not going fast and all of a sudden there is a stationary object that is not well lit i have a problem.

Stopped to shoo away soi dogs in the road, how is that not dog related, if not for them nobody would have been hit.

If, if if! What if she had stopped to render assistance to a young child who had run into the street instead, would it then have been child related! Fact is, the Benz driver did the killing, not the dog or the woman who stopped, regardless of her intentions or reasons.

And I think you are 80 years late for job in Poland that you may have enjoyed.

The woman is described as trying to remove lame animal from road. If true, aside from being kind act, it was thoughtful of others. Had a motorbike hit the animal, the motorbike passengers most likely would have crashed.  The Merc driver was obviously speeding if he was unable to stop or slow.  It doesn't even look like there was much braking.

Why was he "obviously speeding" ? Please provide facts or references  or else describe it as "in your opinion", although resulting in the damage to the bike  it did not look a high speed impact   I would add that based on experience ," in my opinion" she possibly had no rear light on her bike which may have been a contributory factor.  Other than that the other posters are correct regarding dogs being allowed to room freely and frankly I agree they should either be put down humanely or given to the Koreans living here to BBQ.

Not in my experience...

Dashcam, Dashcam, Dashcam.....

It can prove the speed of the driver, can prove whether the motorcycle had lights, can prove if the bike pulled across the road at the last minute, can prove driving with care and attention (or not)....

I theory, a driver should be able to stop for anything stationary in the road. In reality how many of us would get caught out? Its night, we may see an object int he road but it may take a while longer to realise its not moving.

The fact is, whether the lady was tending to a dog or a child or anything else, she entered and stayed in the road. RIP, it's terribly sad that she passed away, but she also placed herself at grave risk, some could argue unnecessarily.

I hope the German guy doesn’t get ‘hung drawn and quartered’ for this, the damage to the bike doesn’t look excessive (doesn’t appear to be going excessively fast) - driving down the road within the speed limit is not a crime, having an accident is not a crime.

This appears to be a terribly tragic accident.

I’m curios how can you conclude:

- Obviously speeding

- Wasn’t much braking

How can you tell he was speeding ? - whats the speed limit on this road and what speed was the vehicle ‘obviously doing’ ??

Braking...  I’m at a complete loss here... How you possibly know or assume that there wasn’t much braking?

I guess you are not familiar with ABS.

It's obvious from the state of the motorcycle and the car that this was a relatively low speed collision - the ABS system would leave no skid marks.

No sure the relevance of the "Benz," are they saying it's better than being killed by a Toyota?

It adds the sensationalism of the article....  We can’t have news these days without someone believing they are smarter than the reader and thinking “I’ll add this word to ‘drag them in" !!!!!...

... it really is a shame that these days the priority of most news seems to be ‘luring in the reader’.....

You think this car was travelling at 100 speed (100kmh) ???... You looked a the photo, right?

You saw the minimal damage which indicates a relatively low speed impact, right ????

Certainly a reason not to ride my motorcycle at night....   More reason to take the car !

Over the past 20+ years I have done everything possible to avoid driving at night outside of the city or towns (i.e. on the highways).

The one time I did drove between provinces at night (about 8 years ago) the road was pitch black, in driving within the limits of my lights I was amazed at the speed of which other vehicles passed me...

The drunks... always a worry for us. No so much of a concern for the police who only seem concerned with setting up a road block from time to time, catching their quota 20 drunk drivers, taking the money then letting them get on their way.

Standard farang price - 1 million baht.   As this guy was flashing his wealth, price go up.

Better for her relatives who might be getting a higher payout, perhaps?

Maybe he has read this part of the article :

''Witnesses said that the woman had been shooing away some soi dogs that had gathered in the road when the Benz arrived at speed and hit her from behind propelling her into the windshield of the car.''

Let me do it easy for you, the important words here are ''witneses said'' and ''the Benz arrived at speed''

Also his complete sentence was :

''The Merc driver was obviously speeding if he was unable to stop or slow. ''

So indeed it's obvious he was speedind, if he wasn't he would have been able to stop in time isn't it?

Now you ask what is the speed limit on this road? The answer should be that your speed must allow you to stop quickly enough in safety in case of a sudden danger on the road, so it depends of the state of the road, the light, your sight, the state of your car and so on

On the video of the accidents, you can see the limit is 80

the signs are painted on the road, just under the corpse of the victim

and the area is well lighted, so it seems to be difficult to not see

someone on the road in front of you, particularly a motorbike taxi driver with his orange vest

https://thepattayanews.com/2021/05/10/video-news-female-motorbike-taxi-driver-passes-away-after-being-hit-by-car-while-reportedly-trying-to-help-stray-dog-off-highway/

The young german is in the background on the video, busy with his phone probably trying to contact the insurer, you can spot him easily he is the only one to not having a mask (I know it's not really his major concern at the moment, but still)

Now if you are saying it was not speeding, how it comes he was unable to stop in time or even to turn the wheel at the last minute and avoid the collision? He wasn't paying attention? Busy with the phone?

Drunk or drug? What is your bet?

And yet the UK has its Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (founded 1824), but can only manage the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (founded 1884 - 60 years later).

How long would this guy go to jail for you reckon?
