Your Last Supper...

Featured Replies

Somebody mentioned the last supper in another thread and it got me thinking, what would it be if I had the choice. There are so many different types of food I enjoy, I have tried most things, but as a last supper...

It would have be be spaghetti with a sun-dried tomato sauce. The sauce would have to be packed with olives and peppadew peppers. Crack of black pepper and loads of parmeasan cheese.

For wine, a good quality Cabernet Sauvignon.

What would be your choice?

Good quality haddock and chips, with irn bru to drink - not as fancy as tigger...

It's your last meal Suegha - you don't have to try and impress anyone, so what would you really have?

Humble pie and a large bottle of vodka. :o

Porterhouse steak, chips, peas, mushrooms and a bottle of Penfold's Grange.

Just read that a death row inmate gave his choice for a last meal, a pizza, to a homeless person. It was delivered after his death. I'd probably do something similar. Shit, going to heaven anyway and the tables are supposed to be loaded with everything I'd ever want.

Hope they have white wine.

Wow, I didn't think it was impressive. In fact anything but! It's what the wife and I have as the quickest meal of the week, takes 10 mins from start to finish. And we do have it about once a week.

I wonder why you thought it impressive?

My first thought was rare whale steak with a pepercorn sauce, chips and fresh greens on the side. Wine - a Chatau Neuf DePape (spelling???). But I thougth that might be pretentious...

ps had the whale steak while in Iceland, best meat I have ever had!

No food, but a couple of bottles of a nice Merlot. I can't eat when I'm upset or worried, and if I knew it was my last meal, I sure as hel_l would be upset or worried!! :o The wine would help me mellow a little, though.

Only if Jesus is anaemic - normally blood converts to red wine. Wouldn't matter much because in heaven you don't get hangovers from the antihistemines in Red wine.

:o

True, Cawbee, but red wine stains the teeth. Mind. prob don't have any of those up there. OK, a nice merlot or Chateau Neuf. Wine cellars probably have centuries of picks in heaven.

It is the last week in September, the AFL Grand Final at the MCG. the game has been tight all afternoon, I am sitting there with a Great Southern Pie and a plastic cup of VB. It is freezing cold but no one cares. In the dying seconds of the game the Mighty Adelaide Crows win their 7th consecutive Grand Final. Afterwards we head off to Jimmy Watson's restaurant for a magnificent meal of Chateau Briand (sirloin not tenderloin, wrapped in streaked bacon and served with a reduced sauce made from white wine and shallots moistened with demi-glace and mixed with butter, tarragon, and lemon juice.

The vegetables are crisp and garden select, lightly sauted in white unsalted butter and a touch of garlic.

The wine is a Penfolds Grange Hermitage Shiraz '63 vintage (retails - if you can get a bottle of it for about AU$1,970) and has been gently aired for a couple of hours previously.

Instead of desert I decided to take a cheese platter with a variety of farm house cheeses, Carr's table water crackers, some California Walnuts, and Muscatel grapes.

Post Dinner I take my delightful lover back to the Regent on Collins Street Melbourne for a nightcap and an evening of passionate love. Sometime during the third set I have a massive heart attack and everyone says that for a 98 year old it must be a great way to die.

I get cremated with my favourite guitar and head up to heaven just in time to catch Jimi Hendrix's second act with Jesus playing harmonica. On the way in I grab a slice of Pizza from Alfredo's on Lygon Street served by one of his celestial angels (ahhh Rebecca I remember her) and stand between Jimmy Page and Rory Gallagher who are waiting to try out for the Jam Session later on in the evening.

If I know that I was going to die, I wouldn't enjoy it anyway, but a giant, Mission street super-Burrito, would taste better than anything else.

What not eat at the Duke's?

:o

The Duke's is a fine restaurant, but I am not crazy about their Mexican food.

After almost 20 years without, a REAL Mission Street Burrito would be almost priceless. :o

What is it with you guys and chips? A whale steak and chips washed down with a bottle of Chateau Neuf de Pap - that's not pretentious its sacrilege.

Liver with fava beans and a nice chianti.... :o

I did a google search and can't find a liver and fava been recipe - pity I have some left over sweetbreads in the freezer from when the last census taker called.

Fava Recipes

Anyone read the last book on Hannibal - It was advertised at Bookazine but they said they can't get copies for some reason. Censorship Rule?

Liver with fava beans

Smothered in Vegemite? :o

Uuuuugh - oh yes add jam (grape jelly) to it and instant death.

Why do the Americans call it Jelly? Jelly is what you eat with icecream as a desert.

Do Canadians like Peanut and Jelly Sandwiches?

These are the important questions in life that we need answered

They weren't chips, they were deep fried potato wedges (one potato cut into four) in a crispy 'something or other'. I just said chips for speed and ease. It was a very posh restaurant so I suppose they wouldn't want chips on the menu.

Right - did they wrap it in newspaper and you eat at the end of the pier?

:D

it was probably the most expensive meal I have ever had. In iceland a coffee and cake needs a bucket of dosh. We did however think that we would never get the chance again as you don't often see whale on a menu, not even in Iceland.

Beans on Toast would be good so I could fart on the devil, one knows where I am going!

I had a copy go through the store and I wasn't impressed.

I have been a fan of the series since Red Dragon came out - long before any movies - however, it seems to me that the concepts and characters have already been squeezed dry. :o

Suppose you'd need a "broadsheet" to wrap a whale.

PS It's Chateauneuf du Pape - the appellation being a reference to the infamous Avignon popes.
