Eight more cases of the South African variant of COVID-19 have been found in the Tak Bai district of Thailand’s southernmost province of Narathiwat, bringing confirmed cases to 11 so far.

Medical Sciences Department Director-General Dr. Supakit Sirilak said today (Monday) that the medical sciences centre, based in Songkhla province, had collected an additional 18 samples from Tak Bai district, for testing at the department’s request.

The centre could test only 15 samples and 8 of them were the South African strain while the 7 others are of the UK variant.

Wow they really have gone into mass testing mode with 15 samples examined already. Someone needs to remind the authorities that this variant is much more contagious than the original strain and is no doubt spread far and wide because it arrived here a month ago. And people should also take note of the fact that the AZ vaccine is so woefully incapable of dealing with this variant that S Africa ditched this vaccine and is already innoculating it's general population with Pfizer & the J&J single shot vaccine. How can a bankrupt country like S Africa be so far ahead of Thailand! Methinks they have intelligent & delivery oriented leadership.
