I know it is Thailand, but why does the photo line up for a vaccine delivery require the presence of two senior police officers centre stage?

What can they possibly have to do with any of it?

There was a police escort - maroon/yellow livery BMW - leading the caravan of DKSH delivery trucks.

One assumes you need the police "involved" in everything here. wink.

The first lot was delivered by the chairman of Siam Bioscience, the local producer of the vaccine, Air Chief Marshal Satitpong Sukvimon,

Now it all makes sense.

It's nothing without the fanfare.

They keep 2 there 24/7 to be ready for every photo op.

That's not particularly unusual. It's a technology transfer agreement with AstraZeneca so they just have to do exactly what they're instructed with the materials they're given. AstraZeneca have been doing the same thing in other places. I think a lot of the criticism centred on who owns Siam Bioscience is politically motivated and ill-informed.

Why is a pharmaceutical company chaired by an Air Marshall.. No doctors available?

When I read the word 'caravan', I thought they'd got some local Pikeys involved. Y'know, cheap labour & all that...

Every company here is littered with military directors and board members. It's SOP.

This CoB is simply decorative. He's the "lipstick".

An Irish Ceilidh band with some Pikeys would have livened up an otherwise dull fanfare.... all washed down with lashings of the black-stuff.

Exactly. And to many on here the technology transfer agreement should have been completed within weeks in Thailand, not taken several months like other countries.

Had it been done quicker the complaints would have been about a rush job, there are those that will always find fault, one way or another.

If AZ had honoured it's delivery commitments out of Europe and India the Siam Bioscience facility would never have become an issue. Something the anti Thai brigade would prefer to ignore.

It doesn't matter who owns it. It's obvious that SB is having issues producing AZ vaccine since they can't meet previously promised delivery dates. They are shorting and delaying deliveries to the Philippines.

India has much worse problems, they are delivering about 1% of what they promised.

Did you know that the Astrazeneca vaccine is the first ever vaccine produced by Siam Biosciences? A new emergency vaccine produce by a company using new technologies never before used in the company.

So what, the quality has been tested by Astrazeneca and approved.

More accurately they have halted shipments overseas to address their own problems.

From what I understood, the delivery is to AstraZeneca *not* the Thai govt. It is AZ who allocate the production

And if you read the article properly it says that Astrazeneca Thailand will deliver to the Thai government.

No need to be so hyperbolic.

Most of us are not 'haters'.

We simply want honesty and transparency. I know, we can be so demanding.

SK Bioscience in South Korea is a few weeeks ahead of Siam Bioscience re: producing AZ vaccines. But they (SK and the government) are very open and honest about details and progress.

"Although SK Bioscience is producing and exporting the AstraZeneca vaccine, it cannot be regarded as a breakthrough because the AstraZeneca HQ is in full control of its production and export volumes and SK Bioscience is in no position to change the destination of the vaccine it produces. Under the circumstances, the government’s plan to reach herd immunity by November this year is increasingly in doubt."

I would think that the Thai regime would be ecstatic about the progress on AZ with Siam Bioscience, and would want to share all the details.

But, for some reason, they seem reticent to do so.

Deals from AZ with producing companies in other countries are not all the same.

Even more reason to be transparent.

Why was Thanathorn was threatened when he questioned this "deal".

If there's some national security angle, or a business reason, to be secretive on the commercial relaitonship between a foreign company and a Thai company with the government lodged in between, and which impacts the health of every citizen, then just say that.

As is the outcome, AZ Europe promised what they couldn't deliver.

As for Siam Bioscience, time will tell rather more than unsubstantiated speculation.

How does he get to be chairman of a company, doesn't his day job keep him busy?

Unless a company is on the stock market they don't have to inform the public about anything.

How many trained people to administer it to the population?

I came out of hospital yesterday, & when having the cannula for the drip removed, there were three nurses.

In my estimation, staff needed for vaccination, most likely 4. At least.
