MOBILE PHONE THIEF IS TRAMPLED IN PATTAYA

A bar boy, who stole a mobile phone, was blockaded. Workers trampled him after he surrendered.

On the 23rd May 2007, at 12:20 am, Pol.Capt. Piya Unruen-gnam, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya, was notified that there was an incident at a shop house construction site on Soi Old Boxing Ring, Central Pattaya, Moo 10, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi, involving a stolen mobile phone.

The construction workers blocked the thief who ran into a nearby wooded area. The police team rushed to the location of the incident to investigate.

At the site, many workers were crowded around the woods and the construction site. The victim of the phone theft was Mrs.Bang-On Mana (36), a construction worker. She said that she was sleeping in her room on the second floor when a tall man came to see asking about a friend.

She immediately realized that the man had snatched her Pink Nokia mobile phone which she had left on her bed. She had just bought it for 1,000 baht. The man immediately ran away downstairs. Mrs. Bang-On shouted out for help. The man ran into the woods to hide. The workers blocked his escape for more than an hour.

The man realized that he could not to get away with his nefarious crime and came out to surrender and return the stolen mobile phone Mrs. Bang-On. The workers were, nonetheless, very angry and trampled the would-be phone robber.

The suspect's name was Mr. Boonchin Pornthavorn (27), address 153/83, Soi Plukejit, Lumpini, Pratumwan, Bangkok. He said that he works as a bar boy around Jomtien Beach. However, he was presently unemployed and had no money.

Because of his unfortunate predicament, he decided to go up to the building to ask for a friend, so he could attempt to steal something. Although he didn't really know anybody there, he soon found a suitable victim and snatched the mobile phone. However, unfortunately for him, he was caught and received a trampling. Police arrested him and charged him with theft.

Further investigation is under way.
