New school term in Thailand to start on June 14 - but some students to study online

The start of the new academic year will begin as planned on June 14, Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration has confirmed.

 

However, in some provinces schools will remain closed and students will be required to study online.

 

The school term had been due to start on June 1 but was postponed until June 14 due to the COVID-19 situation. 

 

Now the CCSA has given the green light to the Education Ministry for the new term to start on Monday.

 

For some students, this will mean a return to the classroom.

 

But for many others, studies will continue online. 

 

Schools in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan will remain closed, the CCSA confirmed.

 

Schools in other areas have also announced that they will remain closed.

 

In Hua Hin, for example, many of the private schools have announced that they will remain closed until at least July 1. In Chonburi, it was announced that schools will remain closed until further notice.

Not a problem for us, we’re used to it now, as is our son and at least we can spend more time together. Studying on line does have its advantages too, our son can study in his pajamas and, if a lesson is so boring, he can turn off the screen and do something productive.

I will not believe anything anymore.

They announced school will open on 14.

The school already confirmed that.

Now the day schools in Bangkok will keep closed.

 

Can they make up their mind.

schools in Hawaii are open for in class or computer at home. The parents decide. But they all are open now. Seems like a good solution.

I keep asking 'her in doors' what no school again for her 18 year old daughter?.

 

I'm the bad one for mentioning the months of none study last year, and the time lost already this year.

The teacher actually came to the house asking us to not request refunds (as per the government advice).

Saying that nobody will fail, and the marks will be fine.

Can see another graduate for the 7/11 cash register soon.

Kids don't want to go school anymore, how long have they been out of schools during the last 18 months ? 
I am speaking of mine, 5 years old... She wants to stay with us, doesn't want to go back to school. How many parents can not afford to have their kids at school 24/7 for that long... a little bit of common sense...

Dear Parents,

 

According to the continuing spread of SARS-CoV-2 in Bangkok, the school considers student's safety first. Therefore the school is extending the online learning until 30 June 2021 and for evaluating the risks of virus outbreaks that may occur from normal classes at school. However the school is managing for all teachers and staff to receive vaccinations as soon as possible.

 

This confirms that A Nut In's promise of getting techers vaccinated before reopening schools on 14 June was complete hogwash! And then will have to wait another 14 days before the Wuhan vaccine becomes 2 % effective.

Bangkok and some surrounding areas have a particular issue with Covid clusters, so they are playing safe and keeping schools closed for now.

Other provinces/towns/areas are as safe as they can be with minimal infections and thus can open for the children to get an education.

Or do you wish every province to follow the highest infected area irrelevant of it's own infections??

some places are starting on the 14th, some aren't.   I guess it's up to the school director.  

 

 I think I would start school.   Maybe like 1/2 comes on Monday, the other half on Tuesday.  who knows, I'm out of this game....

 

I can see another semester of three day weeks, two days a week off due to COVID, and English proficiency certainly dropping.    

 

Falang parents......please, send MORE cash!!!!  Use the enclosed envelope to put in 100,000 baht (I know you have it!!!).   Give for your kid's future!!!!   OK, 200,000 baht.   

 

school is a money-making business.   no question about that.

 

Back home, I've seen some horrible online for-profit universities.....omg, and people went there.   took out loans.   $80,000 a year.    hahhaahahhahhaha.  

 

the best teacher is a parent.   until college, and then the kid needs a real specialist.   

 

I can teach brain surgery and rocket science.   1,000,000 baht.   don't wait, classes are filling up fast!!1

I do. We have two boys 15 and 10.....the older is pretty good, but the younger has the attention span of a doughnut. Also having them home all the time is four people living under each other’s fingernails......tempers do fray from time to time. Also the private school fees around Pattaya are over the top, in Korat for private we paid 40,000 baht for the two of them.....here they want double that for one kid......and everybody here seems happy to pay it, and that is why they have you by the short and curlies. The government suggested some refunds, but up to the school......I’m looking for those pigs to fly over my house before I expect any money. At least the wife won 20,000 baht on the Laos lottery this week. Perhaps the pigs will fly!

It kinda depends on the covid situation, can't you see that? Maybe you missed too many school days in your childhood too...

I am not sure how parents think about this but I am certain many do. Some want the kids back in school fast, others like the time they have with them. I am hopeful that they also look at it as 2 years out of 72, or just short of 3% of their kids entire average lives. Schools can extend the school year by one year to help kids catch up, or parents can encourage reading alone. But anything is better than kids dying. Even one is too many.

And they have lost another years salary, like those that need a gap year before university. Cannot agree with it. It is your responsibility to get yourself educated, and that includes accepting the  pressure of being educated.

Unfortunately Rayong decided to join the "not yet" group, made worse as my daughter's school dropped the online classes at the end of May and said "study your books until the 14th."
