webfact Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Image credit: AFP The BBC reported that amid the continuing pandemic and everything Covid-19 related some diseases have tended to be put on a back burner. One of these is Dengue Fever, the mosquito bite disease that they said had caused 3,000 cases in the country since January and two deaths. Elsewhere on Thaivisa we reported that Thai health minister Anutin Charnvirakul speaking at last week's ASEAN Dengue Day meeting had reported an 80% drop in cases compared to last year. He put this down to better public awareness and eradication of many of the breeding places of the specific mosquito that causes the disease. The BBC preferred to report on the continuing efforts of Thai researchers to combat the disease. They noted that there were four strains of dengue in Thailand and that each had varying severity. Thai researchers have co-developed dengue vaccines that are the first of their kind in the world and they are urging the government to step up vaccination of the people to combat the disease. They said that of all dengue cases 70% are in Asia with the remaining 30% in South America. Experts in the field of dengue research are concerned that with public health focus on Covid-19 this disease would attract less interest though it can be very debilitating and occasionally even fatal. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-06-23 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1
mfd101 Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Living here in south Surin I assume that dengue fever (at least during the wet months) is a greater threat to my health than the corona virus. So where are they at with the dengue vaccine? 1
rickudon Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Well the last dengue vaccine trialled in the Philippines was a flop. 2

Surelynot Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Didn't it it caused more severe forms of Dengue fever in anyone who had previously had dengue fever....not good.
