The Thai Immigration website says the first extension of stay is equivalent to the notification of staying over 90 days. (https://www.immigration.go.th/en/?page_id=1666)

1. Does this mean I can file online from now on?

2. Does getting a new visa (education) act similarly to the extension of stay, counting as a 90 day report?

Thank you!

1. You will have to do your first 90 day report in person 90 days from the day you apply for a extension of stay.

2. If you applied for 90 day non-ed visa entry the new entry stamp resets the 90 day count and starts a new 90 days.

That's great. Thanks for the info.
