I am sure that makes sense to you anyway. You say that people are too skint to pay the new higher prices and then say that prices are too low now.

Complaints about prices of barfines and drinks have been legion on the forum for many years accompanied by doom predictions. No member admits to being skint, of course.

Nor did I imply that prices are too low. No one would ever dare suggest such a thing on this forum. But if you say they're low, then that should be good news to those previously whinging, if they're still alive. ????

So then we must spread all this good news.

So now you are saying prostitution is a crime under Thai law.

Duh.

I think you are confusing what exists in Thai law, and the enforcement of Thai law, which we know corruption play a part.

No, actually you are. They are enforcing pretty consistently, as in the case below:

Here's a random article from Google of charges against a Soi 6 bar for prostitution.

That's what happens if you aren't compliant, as I noted earlier.

You are the one saying that prices are so low people can have sex on their barstools.

You are just a troll you twist everything that is said and contribute nothing sensible.

But that's hardly too low. Many a monger would happily take advantage of that low-priced convenience as indeed they did in the good old days. My point was: So mongers are finding things so much less convenient and more expensive than they used to be. Your disagreement was: Not necessarily. I merely gave you benefit of doubt, which is only fair and sensible.

The opposite.  They are selectively enforcing.

Non compliant with corruption, not the Thai law.

I think Casinos are a certainty, new condos and Malls are still being built, investments of billions of baht, they are not doing this for nothing, they are not doing this in the hope that sex tourists from the likes of the UK come here to get drunk for 2 weeks in Soi 6.

I believe that people who are investing Billions of Baht probably have some insider knowledge of the future plans for a new Pattaya, and those plans won't be factoring in the old demographic.

I hope you're wrong. Chinese love the casinos. Look what happened to sihanoukville in cambodia. Last thing we want here...

How can cheap beer, lady drinks and bar fines, under a tin roof, compete with a luxury casino resort, or even small casinos, with multi millionaire, possibly billionaire, Chinese gamblers arriving to part with their money?

These people could fly into Pattaya on their weekends, get drunk, get laid, and gamble, then fly back Sunday evening for work on Monday.

Pick a figure, say just one of these guys loses 2 million baht on a weekend. How many 60 baht beers, lady drinks, bar fines, and 1000 baht to the girl is that from sex tourists?

Frightfully sorry but I find you a crashing bore and have no further interest in this thread.

So your saying the Soi Bukow ,balloon chaser, make one beer last all night, going back for 3rds and 4ths at the free pig roast, will not be the pick of the litter for Thai women in Pattaya any more? We will get dumped for the rich Chinese?

Depends how the Thai's implement their casino policy.

Maybe they will make some small and exclusive casinos for "whales" with no nightclubs, sports bars etc.  Where's the social harm to Thai's in this case?

Maybe they will make huge casino resorts with everything from buffets to helipads etc.

From what I have seen in Sihanoukville, the casinos there pushed land prices up, therefore rents, so the businesses catering for westerners drinking $0.50USD beers couldn't pay the increased rents.  Sound familiar?  A lot of those business owners are now down in Kampot.

For most Chinese tourists your particular behaviour would be considered extravagant,

Rose-tinted rearview mirror, love it.

Fortunately, we have contemporary accounts to tell us how it really was. Not so great, as it turns out:

There are two types of articles appearing in the Pattaya Mail with regularity: those where business and political leaders decry the decline in tourism and propose ways to improve the situation; and a steadily increasing number of reports of tourists being insulted, assaulted, drugged, robbed and extorted.

. . .

It doesn’t matter if the streets are cleared of garbage, no one is going to walk down them if doing so leaves them open to being insulted and assaulted. Having a beach promenade doesn’t matter if strolling along it means taking the risk of being knocked down and robbed. No one is going to participate in the vibrant night-life if there is a good chance that they will wake up three days later in the hospital with all their possessions gone, or in some cases, not wake up at all. No one is going to seek an exotic experience if it means they might be set up by girls with both a legal age and under age ID, and then extorted for immense sums by the police.

Pattaya is being inundated with rude obnoxious thugs who do not care about the city or its visitors. They do not listen to the community leaders, and the police do not have the budget or manpower to control them. They are driving away the tourists and the income and jobs that they bring. Inevitably, this rabble will win as they reduce everyone to their level of poverty.

Meanwhile, tourism to Cambodia is increasing by 50% every six months...
--Lawrence Neal, "Down on Pattaya," Pattaya Mail, Vol. V No.5, Friday 31 January 1997 - 6 February 1997.

The beneficent Golden Egg Layers supporting the entire Thai economy had run out of golden eggs and, driven away, were heading for the exits to the paradise of Cambodia. Tourism down. Rude obnoxious thugs inundating the streets, police powerless. Tourists insulted, assaulted, drugged, robbed and extorted. Thais being reduced to poverty! OMG!!!

What to do? Took about a decade to figure out.

Where did I say anything about Pattaya?

Never mind, take every opportunity to let the sarcasm roll.  :cheesy:

I was thinking if the decline continues like this even they might consider closing.

The problem is the food court and the rest are all closed so people aren't bothering to go there

Where did you exclude Pattaya in the topic Pattaya: Dead as a Dodo in the Pattaya forum, in response to HashBrownHarry's response to the subtopic of casinos reviving Pattaya?
