So what do you call a 'natural' infection with the virus and studying its impact on a subject? Is that a non-lab rat experiment? In that case I'd rather be the lab rat, where I get a muzzled virus or a replica to train on first. It's good to have volunteers for natural infections though, from a scientific perspective.

In the UK they may be doing Covid experiments involving infecting subjects - not sure whether it's going ahead. This is approvable in that treatment can be provided if needed.

Dr. Yong added that the center is currently conducting in-depth research into its ability to block each variant of the virus, including Delta.

I'm not qualified to evaluate the research done by Dr. Yong and Dr. Nakorn Premsri. But these gents for 30 to 40 years have been working in  the trenches of vaccine/virology research when most on here would only think Corona was Mexican beer.

And why Thailand does not allow people who are double vaxed with 2 different vaczines entry without 14 days of quarantine?

You know the answer to that one by now.  Look at the ones arriving that have tested positive in the Sandbox, but then vaccines do not keep one from getting the virus or passing it on, they just reduce the possibility of getting Ill, but then even that has occurred with the Delta Varaiant and vaccinated folks have passed on.

I think it is fairly safe to say, at this point, that the term "Thai research" does not exactly inspire confidence in the masses. I would almost say it means little to nothing. When is the last time this "group" was peer reviewed, published in a major medical journal, or questioned by international health bodies?

Thailand’s Centre of Excellence in Clinical Virology, at the Faculty of Medicine of Chulalongkorn University. That title could have been part of a George Carlin routine, if the comic genius was still around.

What?

Dr. Yong has 21 scientific publications in just the first few months of 2021 listed in Google Scholar.  848 lifetime google scholar publications and an astounding h-index, which measures importance.  Dr. Yong's index of 66 is beyond 'truly exceptional'.

"An h-index (Hirsch index) of 20 is considered good, 40 is outstanding, and 60 is truly exceptional" [1].

Thailand's funding and efforts in medicine, genetics, and genomics are also well known.

From the above linked ASEAN report

The very poor performer countries are the Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines. Malaysia and Thailand are taking off due to the government program in scientific and technological innovation coupled with government program in economic development. In fact, Thailand is establishing reputable science and technology universities.

Maybe spidermike007 thinks news is like fine win: it gets better as it gets older.

You know, for a lot of expats here, for amusement, mocking Thailand is all they've got.

Thailand requires requires 14 days for everyone, no matter how they've been vaccinated.

Thailand does not accept shots of 2 different vaczines as proper vaccinated.
