BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered responsible agencies, via his @prayutofficial Facebook page, to take action against individuals spreading fake news about COVID-19, which might cause public confusion during the pandemic.

His post came in response to social media rumors that Bangkok’s Bang Sue vaccination center would be shut down to prevent overcrowding.

The Prime Minister said each ministry must establish a task force to check and correct fake news related to their areas of responsibility. The government’s Anti-Fake News Centre must check and verify the information and announce on their website, within 24 hours, that they are aware of the news or that a public inquiry has been submitted.

He added that the Government Public Relations Department, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission and spokespersons for all ministries must notify the public of this verified information via all available channels, to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Spreading confusion?

That's super rich!

They can for once accurately "BLAME" their PM and DPM then, lead by example, right?

How about actually getting on top of the narrative Prime Minister?

In a way it's a relief they are so inept at almost every aspect of everything. Because the suggestions here are not particularly conducive to what might occur in a free and fair democracy. And make no mistake, it is a democracy! The General who ousted the elected PM has reassured us of this fact.

This does not bode well for Anutin

" each ministry must establish a task force'

yet another form of censorship, suppressing public opinion and independent info.

The Government can be rolled up.. They promised the Civil Union Bill... nothing anymore.. They promised enough vaccines, impossible, They tell people the country will open on 1st October Lies. 70% of the people vaccinated by the end of 2021 impossible  due to less vaccines.. Telling people 5 million vaccines are coming for private hospitals.. fake news.. They gave 1,1 million to the Red Cross , apply for vaccines on websites, They don't work and more and more... If that is not fake news and make public confused I don't know it any more

Why does he make announcements like this through social media rather than in Parliament where it can be debated!  At least he should have the guts to have a press conference or make a statement on national broadcast stations!

Yeah, sure! That he asks reporters why they not write about the numbers going down, we just look away from.

Would that be the same, more or less confusion that his various departments have been causing for months now?

Best start with the two spouting off yesterday saying things will be just dandy in 4 weeks and the utterly insane comment of vaccinating a million a day !!

Rule #1: "All Fake news must come from the government"

At this point the toothpaste is out of the tube, and no amount of self-granting of supreme powers - the regime has already granted themselves everything from a blanket pardon, to new laws, gazetted rules and Emergency Decrees up the ying-yang- will get it back in the tube.

The amount and type of dissatisfaction on-line towards all institutions here is unprecedented.

Next will be a few token charges, imprisonments and asset seizure cases to scare the public.

But that won't abate the criticism.

Short of public executions I'm not sure there's much more they can do?

Maybe stage a self-coup, all in the name of "saving the Kingdom", to give themselves 6 - 12 months to maintain control, and re-group?

The Fake News Czar

If he is just posting orders from his own Facebook account instead of getting on a podium and stating what he is, well then he has become a frustrated man whose frail ego and fears are overwhelming him to what the true extent of his failure is.  He must be afraid to stand tall in front of the people at a podium and speak.  Why Hide Prayut, why Hide?

As I stated before, the real news is bad enough......let us hope we can discern between that and the fake stuff.

Well the regime is bit like the punchline in that ancient lawyer joke.

When their lips are moving, it's fake stuff.
