DPM Prawit chairs meeting on security planning for 2022 APEC Summit

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's central bank is expected to keep its key interest rate at a record low 0.50% on Wednesday, as the Southeast Asian country struggles with its biggest COVID-19 outbreak to date, a Reuters poll showed on Monday.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand will increase the number of people required to isolate at home with COVID-19 to 100,000, health officials said on Monday, as capacity in healthcare facilities dwindles amid a surge in cases driven by the Delta variant of the virus.

COVID-19 closures and restrictions extended to end of August in Bangkok

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced today (Monday) the extension of COVID-19 restrictive measures, including closures of several venues and delivery-only service for eateries located in shopping malls, until the end of August, following the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) extension and expansion of lockdown measures.

COVID cases may drop in 2 weeks with extended semi-lockdown, mass vaccinations – MoPH

New COVID-19 infections and deaths are expected to drop and the pandemic situation in Thailand brought under control in the next two weeks, if the latest semi-lockdown measures, now imposed in 29 provinces, and extended, are 5% more effective in curbing the continued spread of the disease, said Public Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Kiatiphum Wongrajit today (Monday).

Labour Ministry accepts taxi drivers’ plea for pandemic aid

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Labour has responded to a plea from taxi drivers to provide them with financial aid due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on their occupation. Right now drivers are encouraged to sign up for Social Security coverage, while the authorities are finding appropriate ways to help drivers over 65 years old who are not eligible for new Social Security registration.

Frontline health workers eligible for Pfizer jabs

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has issued details of the latest criteria for healthcare workers ready to receive the US-donated Pfizer jabs. Eligibility now includes those who have received only one dose of a vaccine so far, and those who are yet to receive any shots. Related workers other than doctors and nurses are also eligible.

Public Health Ministry urging people to follow lockdown measures

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health is urging the general public to increase compliance with lockdown measures by another five percent, so as to keep the number of new COVID-19 cases and fatalities from rising further, as a recent study shows only 20 percent compliance. The ministry also encourages people to stay home to stem the spread of COVID-19.
